DA Western Visayas - Capiz Research Outreach Station conducted its 9th Farmers Field Day last October 25 to 28, 2021. During the 4-day activity, approximately 300 farmers from all municipalities and city of Capiz were invited to tour the station which is located at Brgy. Malapad Cogon, Sigma, Capiz.
The station featured its Sloping Agricultural Land Technology (SALT) strips planted to different indigenous upland rice varieties, dragonfruit and grapes production, assorted lowland vegetable production, mushroom production, cacao and rubber tree budwood garden, coffee scion grove and other commodities.
The farmers in attendance were also given the chance to select and participate in the short trainings being offered for the day such as Sloping Agricultural Land Technology (SALT), Sweet Potato Production, Vegetable Production, Mushroom Production and Nursery Management. They were also able to bring home assorted vegetable seeds, root crop cuttings, fruit tree seedlings and other planting materials. A community pantry made up of various produce from the station, canned goods, dried fish and poultry products were also made available for the farmers.
Also in attendance were DA Regional Technical Director Dr. Peter Sobrevega and DA Research Division representatives, municipal agriculturists, agricultural technicians, Office of the Provincial Agriculturist- Capiz and the Capiz Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office.
All participants were reminded to observed social distancing and proper wearing of face masks.
