πŸ¦… TODAY IN AGUILA HISTORY

September 26, 1964 - A New Chapter for Aguila, Sebaste, Antique

Sixty-two years ago today, on September 26, 1964, a significant chapter in the history of Aguila began.
On this date, President Diosdado Macapagal signed Executive Order No. 99, creating the Municipality of Sebaste in the Province of Antique. The order expressly included Aguila among the barrios that would comprise the newly created municipality.

Before this change in municipal jurisdiction, Aguila was under the Municipality of Culasi. Through Executive Order No. 99, Aguila became one of the ten barrios forming the new Municipality of Sebaste, together with Callan, Naubon, Idio, Sebaste (Poblacion), Abiera, Bacalan, Alegre, Aras-asan, and P. Javier. The seat of the new municipal government was designated at Barrio Sebaste.

πŸ¦… What did this mean for Aguila?

Aguila did not become a newly created barrio on September 26, 1964. Rather, this date marked an important change in its municipal affiliation - from being part of Culasi to becoming part of the newly established Municipality of Sebaste.

The Executive Order, however, provided conditions for the municipality to begin its actual existence, including the appointment and qualification of its municipal officials and certification of its financial capability.

πŸ“œ Another important milestone

On May 8, 1967, Congress approved Republic Act No. 4870, An Act Creating the Municipality of Sebaste in the Province of Antique. The law again specifically named Aguila among the barrios separated from the municipalities of Culasi and Pandan and constituted into the Municipality of Sebaste.

TODAY IN ANTIQUE HISTORY

September 26, 1964 β€” The Municipality of Sebaste Was Created

On September 26, 1964, President Diosdado Macapagal signed Executive Order No. 99, formally creating the Municipality of Sebaste in the Province of Antique.

The new municipality was formed from barangays that were previously part of Culasi and Pandan, with the seat of government established in the barrio of Sebaste. The order was issued pursuant to the Revised Administrative Code and followed the approval of the proposal in the House of Representatives.

Although Sebaste's municipal status subsequently went through a legal challenge, it was eventually reinstated through Republic Act No. 4870, approved on May 8, 1967.

Today, September 26 marks an important chapter in the story of SebasteΓ±osβ€”a reminder of how communities evolve, organize themselves, and build their own identity within the province of Antique.

From a barrio to a municipality, Sebaste's journey is part of Antique's continuing history.
