TWO CTG MEMBERS ABANDON ARMED STRUGGLE, YIELD FI****MS IN BUKIDNON

The Philippine National Police, under the command of PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., facilitated the voluntary surrender of two members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) in Talakag, Bukidnon on August 16, 2026, who also turned over fi****ms and live am******on as they chose to return to the fold of the law.

Police Regional Office 10 (PRO 10), through the 1004th Maneuver Company (MC) of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 10, facilitated the surrender of alias โ€œTagyao,โ€ 35, and alias โ€œMorsid,โ€ 33, both residents of Barangay Lantud, Talakag, Bukidnon. The two were identified as Militia ng Bayan (MB) members of Platoon Fury, Sub-Regional Committee (SRC)-5, North Central Mindanao Regional Command (NCMRC).

Tagyao surrendered one caliber .38 revolver with two live .38 am******on, while Morsid yielded one improvised sh***un with two live 12-gauge am******on. The fi****ms and am******on were turned over along with their decision to sever ties with the CTG.

The two previously served as part of the groupโ€™s support structure, providing food and other logistical requirements to CTG members. Their decision to surrender was influenced by former members in their community who had returned to the fold of the law and benefited from government programs and assistance, showing them a viable path toward rebuilding their lives.

PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. emphasized that choosing peace gives former CTG members an opportunity to rebuild their lives while contributing to safer communities.

โ€œChoosing to leave an armed group takes courage, and that decision can help prevent further conflict in the community,โ€ PGEN Nartatez said.

โ€œKung gusto nilang magbago, may pagkakataon silang magsimula ulit at mamuhay nang tahimik kasama ang kanilang pamilya,โ€ he added.

The surrender reflects the PNPโ€™s Enhanced Managing Police Operations priority under its Focused Agenda, reinforcing operational efforts to encourage the peaceful return of CTG members to the fold of the law and help strengthen security in communities affected by armed conflict.

The two former CTG members, together with the surrendered fi****ms and am******on, are currently under the custody of the 1004th MC, RMFB 10 for custodial debriefing, profiling, and proper documentation.

As the PNP upholds peace and public safety under the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., it helps communities move toward lasting peace while assuring the public of โ€œBagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman.โ€

PNP PROBES SHOOTING INCIDENT AT PRIVATE SCHOOL IN ZAMBOANGA CITY

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is conducting a thorough investigation into a reported shooting incident at a private school in Barangay Lunzuran, Zamboanga City, at around 7:50 a.m. today.

Initial police information indicated that the incident involved two students. A Grade 9 student was identified in the initial report as the alleged shooter, while a Grade 10 student was reported among those affected. The PNP is withholding their identities and other personal details in consideration of their age and privacy.

Police are also verifying reports that fi****ms were brought into the school premises and used during the incident. Investigators are determining how the fi****ms entered the campus, their ownership and legal status, and the circumstances surrounding their use.

Responding police personnel secured the area, while the Regional Forensic Unit 9โ€“Scene of the Crime Operations (RFU9-SOCO) conducted a crime scene examination. Investigators from concerned PNP units are likewise pursuing parallel leads to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

Chief PNP Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. directed the concerned units to ensure a careful, evidence-based investigation while giving due consideration to the privacy and welfare of the students and their families.

โ€œAng prayoridad natin ngayon ay maayos nating malaman ang buong pangyayari at mapanatiling maingat ang ating imbestigasyon. We will follow the facts, coordinate with the concerned authorities, and respect the privacy of the students and their families. Let us allow the proper process to take its course,โ€ PGen Nartatez said.

The PNP recognizes that incidents involving students require a measured response that protects both public safety and the rights of those involved. The police organization is also coordinating with concerned authorities as the investigation progresses, particularly on matters involving fi****ms and school security.

The investigation forms part of the PNP Focused Agenda, particularly Enhanced Managing Police Operations, which emphasizes timely, coordinated, and appropriate police action based on the actual circumstances of every incident. This is consistent with the administration's continuing public safety efforts under the leadership of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

The PNP urges the public to avoid spreading unverified information, photographs, videos, or personal details involving the students and their families. Further information will be released as the investigation establishes verified facts, consistent with the โ€œBagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman.โ€

BARANGAY LEADERS HELP TURN OVER 20 LOOSE FI****MS IN ANTIQUE

The Philippine National Police (PNP) continues to strengthen its partnership with communities as local leaders in Antique helped facilitate the voluntary turnover of 20 loose fi****ms and six rounds of am******on, reflecting the growing role of citizens in keeping their communities safe.

The fi****ms were voluntarily turned over on August 14 during a community engagement activity in Valderrama, Antique, with the participation of 17 Punong Barangays who coordinated with local police in encouraging residents to surrender fi****ms that were not properly authorized or registered.

The turned-over fi****ms consisted of eight homemade long-barreled bolt-action sh***uns, ten .38-caliber revolvers, and two .22 Magnum fi****ms. The activity formed part of the continuing police effort to account for loose fi****ms and encourage their voluntary surrender through appropriate channels.

For Chief PNP Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., the accomplishment shows what can happen when police work is matched by community cooperation.

โ€œKapag may tiwala, mas madaling magtulungan. Hindi lang ito tungkol sa mga baril na isinukoโ€”mas mahalaga na may mga barangay leaders na handang makipag-ugnayan at tumulong sa pagpapanatili ng seguridad sa kanilang lugar. We want that kind of partnership to grow, because public safety works best when police and communities move together.โ€

The initiative is consistent with the PNP Focused Agenda, particularly Enhanced Managing Police Operations, which emphasizes responsive police work supported by coordination and community participation. It also supports the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in promoting safer and more peaceful communities through strengthened public cooperation and responsible law enforcement.

The PNP encourages individuals who may still have loose or unauthorized fi****ms to coordinate with the nearest police station and follow the proper procedures for their lawful turnover. Through sustained police-community partnership, the PNP remains committed to building safer communities and advancing the โ€œBagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman.โ€

PNP, AFP THWART POTENTIAL THREAT, RECOVER SUSPECTED IED COMPONENTS IN SORSOGON

Police and military authorities recovered suspected explosive materials and improvised explosive device (IED) components during an operation in Casiguran, Sorsogon on August 6, 2026, preventing the possible use of the items in activities that could endanger the public.

The operation conducted resulted in the recovery of various suspected IED components, including electric blasting caps, capacitors, battery holders, improvised hand grenades, electrical components, wires, and other materials associated with the assembly of improvised explosive devices.

The recovered items have been placed under the custody of the Sorsogon Provincial Explosive and Canine Unit for proper documentation, examination, and disposition.

The operation highlights the value of timely intelligence and close coordination among law enforcement and security forces in identifying and addressing potential threats before they reach communities. It is consistent with the PNP Focused Agenda, particularly Enhanced Managing Police Operations, which emphasizes responsive, coordinated, and intelligence-based police action.

Chief PNP Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. said the recovery should be viewed primarily as a preventive measure aimed at keeping communities safe.

He also underscored the importance of sustained cooperation among government security forces and the public in keeping potentially dangerous materials away from situations where they could cause harm.

The operation supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.โ€™s continuing call for a safer and more secure Philippines by strengthening the capability of government forces to respond to security concerns through lawful, coordinated, and preventive action.

The PNP likewise encourages the public to promptly report suspicious activities or the presence of potentially dangerous materials through the Unified 911 emergency hotline or the nearest police station. Information provided by citizens will be treated with due confidentiality and handled in accordance with established procedures, helping authorities respond promptly to concerns that may affect public safety.

Through sustained intelligence work, responsible police operations, and stronger cooperation with communities and partner agencies, the PNP continues to advance โ€œBagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman,โ€ with public safety remaining at the center of every operation.
