DA-RFO I Conducts FY 2025 Quarterly Review and Assessment for Organic Agriculture Program

The Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office I (DA-RFO I), through its Organic Agriculture Program (OAP), successfully conducted the FY 2025 Quarterly Review and Assessment on October 29–30, 2025 at the DA-Pangasinan Research and Experiment Center (DA-PREC) in Sual, Pangasinan.

The two-day activity served as a venue to evaluate the program’s accomplishments, progress, and challenges in implementing organic agriculture initiatives across the region. Participants included OAP regional staff, station chiefs, and technical personnel from the following research stations: INREC–Batac City and INREC–Dingras in Ilocos Norte, PREC–Sta. Barbara and PREC–Sual in Pangasinan, and ISREC–San Juan in Ilocos Sur.

During the activity, representatives from each station presented the status of their Projects, Programs, and Activities (PPAs) funded under the Organic Agriculture Program, as well as their respective Five-Year Organic Agriculture Development Plans.

Regional Organic Agriculture Focal Person Dr. Marvin G. Quilates emphasized the importance of collaboration, innovation, and shared commitment in advancing the organic agriculture agenda of the region. Meanwhile, Ms. Maybelyn B. Libong, Regional Alternate OA Focal Person, facilitated the “Ways Forward” session, which consolidated key recommendations and strategies for the upcoming planning cycle.

Through this quarterly review and assessment, DA-RFO I continues to strengthen institutional coordination and align regional efforts with national priorities — fostering a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient organic agriculture sector in Region I.

Empowering Women, Enriching the Soil!

The Department of Agriculture - Regional Field Office I, through the Organic Agriculture Program, successfully conducted a Technical Briefing cm Hands-on Training on Organic Fertilizer Production on October 6–7, 2025, at the Women’s Center, Dagupan City, Pangasinan.

Thirty dedicated women from the Maaron Ina Organization actively participated in the two-day training, which combined informative lectures and hands-on demonstrations on producing organic fertilizers using locally available materials. Through this activity, participants gained practical knowledge and confidence to apply sustainable farming methods that nurture the soil while reducing dependence on chemical inputs.

The Organic Agriculture Program continues to uphold its commitment to safe, healthy, and sustainable food production through the Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) Certification.

On September 16–17, 2025, the Regional Pre-Assessment Team (RPAT) conducted the assessment of the Northern Philippines Participatory Guarantee System (NPPGS) as part of the certification process.

The following farms were inspected under the NPPGS:
🌱 Panzzian Integrated Farm
🌱 Cardoms Integrated Farm
🌱 Adams Inuwayan Farm
🌱 Onera Integrated Farm
🌱 Nathan’s Tropical Fruit Farm

The certification process assessed compliance with organic standards and regulations, specifically:
✅ PNS/BAFS 337:2022 – Organic Crop Production, Post-Harvest, and Processing
✅ DC 09, s. 2020 – National List of Permitted Substances for Organic Agriculture
✅ PNS/BAFS 07:2016 – Animal Production

Through this initiative, we move closer to ensuring that organic farms in the region consistently meet national standards—promoting consumer trust, farmer empowerment, and a more resilient agricultural sector.
