Ebbes Elementary School conducted an Earthquake Drill as part of the National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED). The activity aimed to demonstrate the school’s level of preparedness, organizational strength, coordination, and overall readiness of both learners and personnel in responding to possible earthquake emergencies.

In line with this initiative, personnel from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRM) of Sablan, the Sablan Fire Department, and the Sablan PNP visited the school to observe and assess the conduct of the drill. They also shared valuable insights and guidance to further enhance the disaster preparedness and safety awareness of the learners and school personnel.

After the drill, a debriefing session was conducted where the responding agencies provided feedback, recommendations, and important reminders to improve future earthquake preparedness activities.

Through this activity, Ebbes Elementary School continues to strengthen its commitment to building a safe, prepared, and resilient school community.

BERT Training Success: SABLAN District School Facilitators Empowered at Agpay Eco Park ⛑️🦺🛟

Ebbes Elementary School proudly participated in the Batang Empowered and Resilient Team (BERT) Training held at Agpay Echo Park, Burgos, La Union.

El Zuriel Guilao and Richellet Diwas represented the school for the BERT Training, actively joining SDRRM Coordinators and learner-leaders from across Sablan District in this meaningful two-day capacity-building activity.

During the training, participants completed three key modules:

🔹 Know Your Dangers – covering basic school safety, disaster risks, and hazards
🔹 Prepare to Respond – focusing on go bags, first aid, and actions before, during, and after disasters
🔹 Protect Yourself – emphasizing children’s rights in disasters, early warning systems, and hazard maps

These sessions were discussed by Ma’am Phoebe Mar Daganos, District PDO, and further elaborated by Ma’am Nerissa I. Barbosa and Sir Galo B. Santa. Mental health awareness was also strengthened through the insightful discussion of Sir Lloyd Tabdi, District Nurse, highlighting the importance of emotional preparedness alongside physical safety.

On the second day, Sir Galo Santa guided the learners in identifying hazards within their community, along their route to school, and inside the school premises. With the help of their SDRRM Coordinators, learners assessed real-life risks and bravely shared their observations during an open forum. This activity allowed the MDRRMO Sablan to better understand the risks experienced by learners and helped improve disaster preparedness plans to better serve the community and schools.

On the final day, learners and SDRRM Coordinators underwent hands-on training in WASAR (Water Search and Rescue), facilitated by Sir Madayag. They learned basic water rescue techniques, swimmer safety, and proper emergency response procedures—equipping them with practical life-saving skills for water-related emergencies.

A heartfelt thank you to the Sablan Local Government Unit, led by Alfredo B. Dacumos Jr., for approving and supporting this initiative through the DRRM Fund.

Through this training, Ebbes Elementary School continues its commitment to building safer, stronger, and more resilient learners and school communities. 💚💛

To promote a culture of literacy, school staff have established a dedicated learning hub to house books donated by various partners and stakeholders. This space is designed as a collaborative environment where learners, families, educators, and community members can gather to inspire a love for reading and lifelong learning.

The project is currently being funded by cash contributions from GPTA members and officers. As construction continues, the school remains open to further donations to support the beautification and final completion of the structure.
