DSWD FEATURE STORY: From darkness to purpose: OSAEC survivor overcomes trauma to become registered social worker

For a lot of people, forgiving and forgetting a deeply painful experience is almost impossible. Trauma often leaves emotional scars that can last a lifetime.

But for "Langlang," a survivor of Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC), moving forward became a beautiful reality. With the help of the right people, proper intervention, and genuine care from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), she was able to restore her faith in humanity and transform into a productive partner in nation-building. 180 Araw ng Pag-asa: BangUn Supplementary Feeding Program Laban sa Malnutrition at Stunting sa BARMM

Patuloy na isinasagawa ng DSWD ang 180-day Community Supplementary Feeding Activity sa ilalim ng Bangsamoro Umpungan sa Nutrisyon Program (BangUn) Program sa mga piling lugar sa Rehiyon 9, 10, at 12. Sa ilalim ng programa, araw-araw na binibigyan ng masustansyang pagkain ang mga batang benepisyaryo at mga ina para makatulong sa pagtugon sa malnutrisyon at stunting.

Sinimulan ang aktibidad noong Abril 27 sa mga piling munisipalidad sa Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, at Special Geographic Area (SGA) sa Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Layunin ng programa na mapabuti ang kalagayang pangnutrisyon ng mga benepisyaryo sa pamamagitan ng tuloy-tuloy na feeding, nutrition education, at iba pang health interventions para mabawasan ang malnutrisyon at stunting sa mga komunidad.

Alinsunod sa direktiba ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., patuloy na pinalalakas ng pamahalaan ang mga programang pangnutrisyon para masigurong maging malusog ang mga kabataan at magkaroon sila ng matatag na kinabukasan.

This May, the global community joins together for the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial to honor the lives lost to AIDS and stand in solidarity with those living with HIV and their families.

Guided by this year’s theme, “Light the Legacy: Remember. Advance. Act. Keeping the Light Alive,” The DSWD Protective Services Bureau honors the pioneers and advocates who shaped the HIV response while celebrating the vital advancements in prevention and community-led care. By grounding our actions in lived experiences, we continue to strive for a more compassionate and people-centered future.

Sa pagdiriwang ng International Day of Families, kinikilala ng DSWD ang mahalagang papel ng bawat pamilyang Pilipino sa paghubog ng matatag, ligtas, at makataong komunidad.

Patuloy na nakikiisa ang DSWD sa pagsusulong ng kapakanan at proteksyon ng bawat pamilya tungo sa mas maayos at mas inklusibong kinabukasan para sa lahat.

DSWD FEATURE STORY: Malusog na Batang Pinoy hatid ng DSWD Supplementary Feeding Program

Sa tahimik na bayan ng Cuyapo, Nueva Ecija, isang apat na taong gulang na bata ang tahimik na lumalaban sa isang kaaway na hindi nakikita ngunit nararamdaman – ito ay ang malnutrisyon.

Si John, hindi niya tunay na pangalan, ay nagsimula sa isang kalagayang tila hindi dapat nararanasan ng kung sino man. Sa timbang na 10.8 kg at taas na 85 cm, malayo siya sa siglang dapat ay tinatamasa ng isang bata sa kanyang edad.

Bunsong anak si John sa apat na magkakapatid. Ang kanyang ina na si Teresita ay isang solong magulang na nagsusumikap na magtinda ng kakanin at banana cue para lang mabuhay ang kanilang pamilya.

Dahil sa nakitang agarang pangangailangan para lumaking malusog ang bata, agad na isinali si John sa programa ng Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) na Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP). Katuwang ang municipal social welfare and development office (MSWDO), lokal na pamahalaan, at mga volunteers, naging isang mahalagang misyon ng SFP na palakasin ang dating matamlay at mailap na bata.

Sa edad na 65, bitbit ni Nanay Lani Caburnay, residente ng Barangay Mobod, Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental, ang bigat ng mga pagsubok na tila lalong tumitindi sa kanyang pag-edad. Tulad ng maraming senior citizen, hindi biro ang mga pasaning pilit niyang itinatawid sa araw-araw tulad ng kakulangan sa pera at ang humihinang pangangatawan.

Bago mapabilang sa Social Pension Program for Indigent Senior Citizens (SPISC) o SocPen ng Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), ang pamilya ni Nanay Lani ay umaasa lamang sa kakaunting kita ng kanyang asawa bilang isang laborer. Upang makatulong sa gastusin, matiyagang naglalako ng meryenda si Nanay Lani malapit sa isang unibersidad sa Barangay Mobod.

DSWD FEATURE STORY: DSWD Supplementary Feeding Program, nagbukas ng malusog at masiglang kinabukasan sa mga batang benepisyaryo sa Romblon

Sa Barangay Agnocnoc, Ferrol, Romblon, isang malaking pagbabago ang naganap sa buhay ng apat na taong gulang na si Kiean Josh Sulabo. Dati ay kilala si Kiean bilang isang batang mahiyain, mapili sa pagkain, at madalas na matamlay—mga senyales na kalaunan ay kinumpirmang dulot ng pagiging underweight.

Dahil sa kanyang kalagayan, agad silang hinikayat na sumali sa Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP) ng DSWD. Ang programang ito ay alinsunod sa direktiba ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. na wakasan ang malnutrisyon at stunting sa bansa. Prayoridad ng pamahalaan ang pagpapalakas ng mga nutrition-specific interventions para matiyak na ang bawat batang Pilipino ay lumaking malusog, malakas, at handa para sa kinabukasan.
