𝗔𝗞𝗟𝗔𝗡, 𝗥𝗘𝗚𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗩𝗜 | 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 5–6, 2026 – In its continuing commitment to transform the Philippine shrimp industry into a globally competitive sector, the Department of Agriculture–Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR), through the National Shrimp Production Program (NSPP), conducted the Training Course on the Latest Shrimp Farming Technologies on August 5–6, 2026, in Aklan, Region VI. The activity brought together private sector stakeholders, as well as new and aspiring shrimp farmers from the region, to strengthen the country's shrimp industry.
The training workshop was spearheaded by Ms. Maria Abegail A. Albaladejo, National Focal Person for Shrimp, together with the HIPON staff, in close coordination with Regional Director Remia A. Aparri of DA-BFAR Region VI, Provincial Fishery Officer (PFO) Richard E. Cordero of Aklan, and the Region VI Shrimp Focal Persons. Anchored on the mission of the NSPP-HIPON to elevate the country's shrimp industry and position it as a globally competitive sector, the workshop served as a platform for disseminating the latest shrimp farming technologies and science-based production techniques.

In line with one of its core values—Fisherfolk First—the NSPP remains steadfast in its commitment to expanding capacity-building initiatives across the country. Through these efforts, more shrimp farmers are provided access to innovative technologies and technical expertise, contributing to a more resilient, productive, and globally competitive Philippine shrimp industry.

And just as importantly, the development of the Biosecurity Operations Manual (BSOP) for Shrimp Hatcheries and Grow-out Farms, recognizing that robust biosecurity is a fundamental requirement to shield livelihoods and food security from disease outbreaks. This collective goal is to establish a clear, science-based guide that minimizes risks, boosts preparedness, and elevates the long-term competitiveness of Filipino shrimp farmers nationwide.

LEGAZPI CITY, ALBAY — The Department of Agriculture–Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR), through the National Shrimp Production Program (NSPP) or Hipon Iangat ang ProduksyON (HIPON) has once again successfully launched a comprehensive 2-day Training Course on the Latest Shrimp Farming Technologies in Legazpi City. Headed by Ms. Maria Abegail A. Albaladejo alongside the National Shrimp Program (NSPP) staff, and strongly supported by the distinguish Assistant Director for Technical Services, AD Isisdro M. Velayo Jr., BFAR Rehiyon 5 Regional Director, RD Ariel Pioquinto through the presence of PFO Christofer C. Lat, as well as the BFAR Rehiyon 5 Regional Focal for Shrimp, the intensive training gathered local stakeholders and new shrimp farmers who are eager to adopt modern aquaculture practices and transform their local backyards into highly productive, climate-resilient business.

While the breathtaking, perfect cone of Mount Mayon provided a stunning backdrop to the event, the true focus remained fixed on a different kind of growth: the enhancement and long-term betterment of the country's shrimp industry. The primary goal of the training remains steadfast --to equip local shrimp farmers of sustainable farming technologies designed to boost production yields, improve biosecurity, and increase the economic resilience of Filipino shrimp farmers.

By mirroring the resilience and grandeur of Bicol's iconic landscape, NSPP/HIPON aims to transform the Philippine shrimp industry into a global powerhouse of sustainable shrimp aquaculture—ensuring that prosperity flows directly from the pristine waters of Region 5 to the rest of the nation.

MIMAROPA, 19 May 2026 — The Department of Agriculture–Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) through the National Shrimp Production Program-Hipon Iangat ang ProduksyON (NSPP-HIPON)—led by Ms. Maria Abegail A. Albaladejo, Planning Officer V/ National Focal Person for Shrimp and the Hipon Staff officially kicked off its third 2-day seminar-workshop on The Latest Shrimp Farming Technology in Region 4-B MIMAROPA today, May 19 until May 20, 2026. The initiative marks a significant step in boosting the local aquaculture sector, bringing together private stakeholders and aspiring shrimp farmers to master advanced techniques for sustainable and successful shrimp farming operations.

The seminar-workshop gained further momentum with the presence of DA-BFAR Assistant Director for Technical Services, AD Isidro M. Velayo Jr., MDM virtually and the support of the newly appointed Regional Director, Roberto R. Abrera, MPA, RFP through the presence of Dr. Felino M. Magsino, focal person for shrimp of Region 4-B MIMAROPA, both affirming their commitment to the region's aquatic development. Adding an international perspective to the program, Dr. Charo Lai, Head of the Aquaculture Segment at GeneReach Biotechnology Corp. in Taiwan, is serving as a guest expert to share global best practices. This collaborative effort highlights the program's drive to bridge local industry needs with world-class biotechnological expertise for the betterment of the Philippine shrimp industry.

𝐈𝐍 𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐓𝐎𝐒| With the success of the recent training workshop held in Negros Island Region (NIR), the Department of Agriculture–Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR), through the National Shrimp Production Program (NSPP) or Hipon Iangat ang ProduksyON (HIPON)—led by Ms. Maria Abegail A. Albaladejo, Planning Officer V/ National Focal Person for Shrimp and the Hipon Staff—has once again convened in Region XII, particularly in General Santos City on April 21-23, 2026.

The team simultaneously conducted Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) activities accross various shrimp farms to identify and mitigate potential diseases, while continuing to share crictical knowledge and expertise through an intensive training workshop. Backed by the support of Assistant Director for Technical Services, AD Isidro M. Velayo Jr., OIC-Regional Dircetor RD Eugene M. Casas, as well as the presence and specialized knowledge shared by the distinguished speakers, the initiative again proves to be a resounding success.

This successful leg underscores the program's commitment to transforming the country's shrimp industry into a more resilient and globally competitve frontrunner.

Albaladejo, Planning Officer V/ National Focal Person for Shrimp and the Hipon Staff has successfully conducted its two-day training workshop on the latest shrimp farming technologies on March 12-13, 2026, in Bacolod City.

Supported by Assistant Director for Technical Services Isidro M. Velayo, NIR OIC Regional Director Rene Parreño and NIR Shrimp Focals, the initiative underscores the government's commitment to transforming the local shrimp industry to be more resilient and globally competitive.

The presence of former PhilShrimp President, Mr. Roberto Gatuslao and the current President, Mr. Joseph Edgar M. Sarrosa also signifies a strong public-private partnership. This unified front not only boosts the program's credibility but also solidifies a shared blueprint for industrial growth.

As the National Shrimp Production Program (NSPP) continues to navigate the whole country to conduct its initiative, the program anticipates substantial surge in production and additional number of new shrimp farmers equipped with proper knowledge in the sector, which could set to strengthen the country's economic resiliency.
