INAGAWAN ACACIA TUNNEL PARK

Located along the South Highway in Barangay Inagawan, Puerto Princesa City—about an hour's drive from the city proper—this site is a well-known ecotourism attraction. It is often referred to as a "tunnel" due to the natural canopy formed by rows of tall Acacia trees lining the highway.

The local association, the Inagawan Acacia Tunnel Park Community-Based Sustainable Tourism Association (CBST), was established in January 2021. According to local lore, these Acacia trees were originally brought by cowherds to provide shade for cattle in what was once grazing land. Today, the site operates under the auspices of the City Tourism Office. At sundown, numerous vendors from the association set up stalls to sell food, and the park is beautifully illuminated.

The site features hundreds of mature Acacia trees that shade the road, creating a "tunnel effect" through a phenomenon known as crown shyness, where the branches grow toward each other without quite touching.

Key Highlights:

• Popular Stopover: A favorite scenic photo spot and relaxing roadside attraction for travelers.

• Nighttime Ambience: Decorated with lights on the trees, creating a magical atmosphere for guests.

• Future Development: The local government has identified the area for potential upgrades, including a canopy walk, glamping areas, and integrated ecotourism linked to nearby agricultural zones.

• Environmental Value: These decades-old trees are considered environmentally precious.

This is a must-visit destination for those seeking a peaceful, natural environment and a unique tree-tunnel experience, which is a rare sight in the Philippines.
