Ang Iriga City Slaughterhouse ay pinondohan ng DA PRDP IBUILD na Programa at ikalima sa 9 na slaughterhouse na operational na nabigyan ng LTO sa buong Pilipinas.

Malaking hakbang sa pagpapalakas ng kaligtasan at kalidad ng karne pati na rin ng biosecurity sa lungsod ng Iriga, Camarines Sur ang pagkakamit ng License to Operate (LTO) ng Iriga City AA Slaughterhouse, ang kauna-unahang abattoir sa Bicol na naisaayos sa ilalim ng Department of Agriculture Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) Scale-Up.

Ngayong araw ay iginawad ni National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) Bicol Regional Technical Director Dr. Alex B. Templonuevo ang LTO kina Department of Agriculture Bicol Regional Executive Director Rodel Tornilla, PRDP Scale-Up Bicol Deputy Project Director Dr. Mary Grace DP. Rodriguez, Iriga City Mayor Wilfredo Rex Oliva, at Iriga City Veterinarian Dr. Mark Kevin Badiola.

Ayon kay Templonuevo, ang LTO na may bisa hanggang sa ika-24 ng Enero 2027 ay katibayan ng pagsunod ng nabanggit na pasilidad sa Republic Act No. 9296, o ang Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines. Dagdag pa niya, sa pamamagitan ng LTO, ang pasilidad ay maaari nang magsagawa ng pagkatay at pagbenta ng karne ng baboy sa mga pamilihan sa buong bansa.

Samantala, ayon kay Badiola, mahalaga ang LTO sa kampanya ng lungsod laban sa African Swine Fever (ASF) at iba pang sakit ng mga hayop.

Aniya, “Napakahalaga nito sa disease control dahil nasisiguro natin na walang kontaminadong karne, walang hayop na kinatay na may-sakit na ipapalabas at makokonsumo ng publiko. Isa na ring paraan ito para masiguro na ang ating publiko ay malinis at maayos ang kanilang binibili.”

Ang Iriga City AA Slaughterhouse sa Barangay Sta. Cruz, siyudad ng Iriga ay nagkakahalaga ng mahigit P50 milyong piso. Ito ang ikalimang slaughterhouse na pinondohan ng DA Philippine Rural Development Project (DA PRDP) na nabigyan ng License to Operate ng NMIS sa buong Pilipinas. Inaasahang makikinabang dito ang humigit kumulang 4,387 livestock at hog raisers, 163 registered meat shop owners, 436 homestay, resort, at restaurant owners, at 116,249 na populasyon sa buong siyudad sa pamamagitan de-kalidad, ligtas, at sapat na suplay ng karne. Ang National Meat Inspection Service – Regional Technical Operation Center (NMIS RTOC V) ay nagsagawa ng 𝗢𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗛𝘆𝗴𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗦𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 para sa Lokal na Pamahalaan ng Buhi noong Agosto 27–28, 2026 sa Municipal Agriculture Office Conference Hall, Buhi, Camarines Sur.

Ang dalawang araw na aktibidad ay hinati sa dalawang bahagi. Sa unang araw ay isinagawa ang talakayan tungkol sa wastong pamamaraan ng malinis at makakalinis na pagkatay ng mga hayop, habang sa ikalawang araw naman ay isinagawa ang hands-on practicum para sa mga butcher. May kabuuang 24 na kalahok na binubuo ng mga butcher, Local Meat Inspector, at iba pang kawani ng tanggapan.

Layunin ng gawaing ito na mapangalagaan ang mga hayop, matiyak ang kaligtasan ng pagkain, at mapanatili ang magandang kalidad ng karne. Layunin din nitong turuan at sanayin ang mga butcher sa tamang paraan ng malinis at ligtas na pagkatay upang makapagbigay ng malinis, ligtas, at de-kalidad na karne sa mga mamimili.

Ang National Meat Inspection Service – Regional Technical Operation Center (NMIS RTOC V) ay inimbitahan sa 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗥𝗥𝗠 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘀 (𝗟𝗚𝗨𝘀) 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗙𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 (𝗔𝗦𝗙) na ginanap sa Provincial Government of Camarines Sur, Capitol Complex, Cadlan, Pili, Camarines Sur noong Agosto 27, 2026.

Binigyang-diin sa pagpupulong ang mga estratehiya at hakbang sa pagsugpo at pagkontrol sa kasalukuyang paglaganap ng African Swine Fever (ASF) sa Camarines Sur, na kasalukuyang nakaaapekto sa anim (6) na munisipalidad.

Tinalakay rin ang pagpapaigting ng border control o pagkontrol sa pagpasok at paglabas ng mga hayop at produktong baboy sa bawat munisipalidad at sa iba pang bahagi ng lalawigan upang maiwasan at mabawasan ang higit pang pagkalat ng ASF.

The National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) recently conducted oath-taking ceremonies for its newly appointed personnel during its weekly flag-raising activities at the Salvador H. Escudero (SHE) Hall, MITDC Building, No. 4 Visayas Avenue, Vasra, Quezon City.

Officer-in-Charge, Executive Director Fernando N. Lontoc, DVM, administered the oaths of office to the following personnel:

𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟮𝟳, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲: 𝗗𝗿. 𝗣𝗮𝘂𝗹𝗼 𝗤. 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲 and 𝗗𝗿. 𝗡𝗶𝗲𝗹 𝗢𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗔. 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗮𝘀 took their oaths following their promotion to 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗿. Prior to their promotion, both served as Senior Meat Control Officers—with Dr. Silarde assigned at the Regional Technical Operation Center – National Capital Region (RTOC-NCR) and Dr. Barradas assigned at RTOC 10 - Northern Mindanao.

𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟭𝟭, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲: 𝗠𝘀. 𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗠. 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘀 took her oath as the newly appointed 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗜𝗜𝗜. Prior to her appointment, Ms. Angeles served as Meat Inspector III at RTOC-NCR and as officer-in-charge of the Human Resource Development (HRD) Section under the Administrative Division.

Through the continuous advancement and empowerment of its competent workforce, the NMIS reaffirms its unwavering commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring meat safety across the nation.

In a significant milestone for meat safety enforcement in the Philippines, the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) commended the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for its invaluable collaboration along with City Government of Valenzuela that contributed to the first conviction under Republic Act No. 9296, otherwise known as the “Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines,” as amended by Republic Act No. 10536.

The landmark achievement was recognized today, August 17, 2026 at the NMIS MITDC Bldg., Visayas Ave., Quezon City, highlighting the importance of strong inter-agency cooperation in enforcing the country’s meat safety laws and protecting the consuming public.

The first conviction under the Meat Inspection Code stands as a landmark accomplishment in the enforcement of meat safety regulations. It demonstrates that through effective coordination between regulatory and law enforcement agencies, violations involving the illegal handling, transport, sale, or distribution of meat products can be pursued and brought to justice.

This milestone further strengthens the commitment of the NMIS and its law enforcement partners to uphold the law, protect consumers, and ensure meat safety from farm to table.
