The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation has submitted a petition to amend Executive Order No. 26-12, Series of 2026, which currently suspends fiesta celebrations and sports tournaments at both the municipal and barangay levels in Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan.

This initiative was approved by a majority vote of 18 to 11 from various SK chairpersons. It was authored by SK Federation Vice President Melissa R. De Vera and SK Federation Secretary Jamille G. Taluban. The petition has also been signed by the municipal mayor, Hon. Carlito S. Zaplan, Municipal Administrator Benigno L. Cruz, and MLGOO, EnP. Roger B. Amian.

The main objectives of the SK Federation’s petition are rooted in a desire to restore the joyful atmosphere that sports tournaments bring. Sports tournaments, in particular, foster teamwork and discipline among the youth.

Moreover, the absence of the event due to the suspension has led to a noticeable gap in the social calendar of Sta. Barbara, and many youths are eager to revive these cherished traditions. The Federation believes that with the right safety protocols and community engagement strategies in place, it is possible to hold these events responsibly while still adhering to necessary energy consumption measures.

Following the approval, the SK Federation Council awaits the new Executive Order's passage.
