SAFETY FIRST! Following a recent school shooting incident in Tacloban City, Oroquieta City Mayor Lemuel Meyrick M. Acosta issued Memorandum Order No. 188 - 2026 on June 22, 2026, ordering all public and private schools to immediately strengthen their safety and security measures.

​The directive instructs elementary, secondary, and tertiary school heads to tighten campus access, conduct bag inspections when necessary, monitor and counsel students with behavioral concerns, and update emergency response protocols.

​To support these campus-level efforts, Mayor Acosta has also requested the Philippine National Police (PNP) to increase police visibility and conduct regular patrols around school vicinities, particularly during class hours and dismissal times.

​"The safety of our children remains our highest priority," Mayor Acosta stated, urging school administrators, law enforcement, and the community to remain vigilant and work together to maintain a secure learning environment.
