Piña Festival of Ormoc City, Leyte

The Ormoc queen pineapple is among the sweetest in the world and we would like to celebrate this local produce. This is one of the foremost considerations when we decided to rename our festival after this truly Ormocanon fruit.

This event, will be one of the highlights of our upcoming city fiesta in June . The Piña Festival which coincide with the celebration of the feast of our patron saints, St. Peter and St. Paul, is envisioned to be the ultimate cultural program of our city. The Piña festival pays homage to our patron saints, for all the blessings they have bestowed our city.

The Piña festival is a by-product of comprehensive consultations with the city government, tourism and heritage experts, our partners in the education sector, with local dance choreographers and production directors, as well as with other Ormocanons whose opinions we sought.

In our research, we found out that local events are based on either or all of the three factors: Religion, History and Culture or Local produce. Cebu and Tacloban have their Sinulog and Pintados, respectively. Bacolod has Maskara which celebrates their resiliency and positive disposition especially during the sugarcane industry crisis in the 80’s. Then we have the Lanzones Festival of Camiguin – a fruit the province is popular for and the Panagbenga of Baguio which mimics the beautiful blooms of the city.
