OLONGAPO CITY โ€” Barangay Sta. Rita in Olongapo City successfully completed another livelihood training program focused on Basic Electrical and Basic Sewing, giving participants practical skills that may help support future income opportunities and household self-reliance.

The activity, reported by Barangay Sta. Ritaโ€“Olongapo on April 28, 2026, formed part of the barangayโ€™s continuing Ayuda ng Karunungan livelihood initiative. The program aimed to equip residents with useful hands-on knowledge that can be applied in daily life, small service-based work, or possible livelihood ventures.

Through the Basic Electrical training, participants were introduced to practical knowledge related to simple electrical work, safety awareness, and basic technical skills. Such training can be useful for residents who want to better understand common household electrical concerns or explore possible future work in repair, maintenance, or related services.

The Basic Sewing component, meanwhile, provided participants with skills in sewing and garment-related work. Sewing remains a valuable livelihood skill because it can be used for personal needs, small business opportunities, repairs, alterations, and the creation of simple products that may be sold or offered as services within the community.

The successful completion of the program highlighted Barangay Sta. Ritaโ€™s commitment to supporting community-based skills development. Livelihood programs are important because they provide residents with knowledge that can help increase confidence, productivity, and opportunities for additional income.

Barangay officials expressed gratitude to the Livelihood and Cooperative Development Office, including Maโ€™am Edith Taniana, Maโ€™am Melet Alegre, Sir Wilfred, Maโ€™am Myra Gonzalez, and Sir Andrei Poblete, for sharing their expertise and guiding the participants throughout the training.

The barangay also thanked Kapitana Rowena Villanueva Cerezo, Kagawad Dolo M. Valdez, Kagawad Jerry Carpio Nidoy, and Kagawad Julius Quingquing Abejo for giving their time and support to the activity.

Recognition was also given to the livelihood staff, including Ms. Lilibeth Laudato Estella, Sir Nikko Arquilado, Sir JR Ong, Ms. Joy Yologo, and Sir Aaron Nicole Alagad, for their work in helping organize and carry out the program.

The initiative also reflected the continuing efforts of the Committee on Livelihood and Agriculture of Barangay Sta. Rita to promote practical learning opportunities for residents. By supporting programs that teach usable skills, the barangay helps open doors for residents who want to improve their capabilities and explore livelihood possibilities.

The completion of the Basic Electrical and Basic Sewing training served as another step in strengthening community empowerment in Barangay Sta. Rita. Through shared knowledge, cooperation, and continued support, the barangay aims to help more residents gain skills that may contribute to better livelihood and personal development.

OLONGAPO CITY โ€” Barangay Sta. Rita continues to strengthen its livelihood and skills development programs after conducting the orientation for a free TESDA NC II Housekeeping Training for local residents.

The activity was organized by the Committee on Livelihood and Agricultureโ€“Sta. Rita in partnership with the Livelihood and Cooperative Development Office as part of the barangayโ€™s continuing effort to provide residents with practical skills that may help improve their employment and livelihood opportunities.

The orientation was held at the barangay training center, where 40 trainees successfully registered and attended the initial activity. The program is intended to prepare participants for skills training in housekeeping, one of the service-related fields that remains in demand in hotels, resorts, offices, residential services, and other establishments.

Through the free TESDA training, participants will have the opportunity to gain knowledge and hands-on skills in basic housekeeping work. These may include proper cleaning procedures, room preparation, sanitation, laundry-related tasks, workplace organization, customer service awareness, and other skills needed in professional housekeeping settings.

The NC II qualification is an important credential for many workers seeking employment in service industries. For residents who want to improve their chances of getting hired or expanding their livelihood options, TESDA-accredited training can provide both practical learning and recognized certification that may support future job applications.

Barangay Sta. Rita emphasized that the program forms part of its continuing commitment to bring free training opportunities closer to the community. By conducting skills development activities at the barangay level, residents are given easier access to learning programs without needing to travel far or spend heavily for training.

Livelihood programs such as this are especially helpful for residents who want to gain new skills, shift to another line of work, support their families, or explore possible employment opportunities in the hospitality and service sectors. For some participants, the training may also serve as a stepping stone toward local or overseas employment, depending on their goals and qualifications after completing the program.

The involvement of the Committee on Livelihood and Agriculture and the Livelihood and Cooperative Development Office also reflects the importance of coordination in delivering community-based programs. Through partnerships between barangay leaders and livelihood offices, training initiatives can be organized more effectively and made available to residents who need them most.

Beyond technical skills, the program also encourages discipline, confidence, and readiness among trainees. Skills training helps participants understand workplace expectations, develop proper work habits, and prepare themselves for real employment or livelihood situations.

Barangay Sta. Rita said it will continue to offer free training programs for residents as part of its broader livelihood development efforts. The barangay also encouraged the community to support its livelihood initiatives, noting that these programs are designed to empower residents and create more opportunities for personal and economic growth.

The orientation for the NC II Housekeeping Training marks another step in helping Sta. Rita residents build useful skills, strengthen their capabilities, and pursue better opportunities through accessible community-based training.

OLONGAPO CITY โ€” Barangay Sta. Rita is moving to improve the processing of its ALAGA Program grants through a new system being developed with the help of Gordon College students and local barangay officials, in an effort to make reimbursement assistance more organized and accessible for qualified beneficiaries in the community.

According to information released by the barangay on Monday, April 21, 2026, the project is being developed with the participation of Gordon College students Mr. Janico Sorio and Mr. John Ian Ormides, together with Kagawad Rodman Barroga, identified in the post as the author of the ALAGA Program. The initiative is expected to support a more orderly system for handling grant-related processes under the barangayโ€™s assistance program.

The ALAGA Program provides reimbursement cash assistance for medicine, confinement and burial expenses of qualified residents from three sectors in the barangay โ€” persons with disabilities, senior citizens and solo parents. By creating a more structured system for the program, the barangay is aiming to improve how claims and reimbursements are managed, especially for beneficiaries who may already be dealing with urgent financial and medical burdens.

Programs of this kind often become essential at the barangay level because they respond directly to expenses that many vulnerable families struggle to shoulder on their own. Medicine costs, hospital confinement bills and burial expenses can quickly place pressure on households, particularly among low-income residents and sectors with limited earning capacity. In that setting, even reimbursement-based assistance can serve as an important form of relief.

The introduction of a more organized ALAGA Program system also reflects how local governments are increasingly trying to use practical tools and local partnerships to improve service delivery. By working with student developers and barangay personnel, Sta. Rita appears to be combining community-based governance with academic initiative to strengthen a program that directly affects residents in need.

The involvement of Gordon College students adds a development angle to the initiative, showing how student-led or student-assisted projects can contribute to actual public service mechanisms in local communities. If implemented well, a more streamlined grant system could help reduce confusion, improve record handling, and make it easier for beneficiaries to understand how they may avail themselves of assistance.

Barangay Sta. Rita also reminded residents that those seeking reimbursement cash assistance may coordinate directly with the offices for PWDs, senior citizens and solo parents located at the Barangay Covered Court. This gives beneficiaries and their families a clear point of contact for inquiries and possible availment of the program.

For many residents, the value of the ALAGA Program lies not only in the cash support itself, but in the assurance that there is a local mechanism meant to respond to moments of hardship. Medication needs, hospitalization and bereavement often come during the most difficult times for families. A functioning barangay-level assistance system can help lessen some of that burden when support is delivered clearly and efficiently.

The April 21 update from Sta. Rita points to a broader local goal: making social assistance not only available, but better managed. If the new system succeeds in improving the flow of reimbursement claims, it could strengthen trust in the program and make access easier for the sectors it was designed to serve.

For Barangay Sta. Rita, the ALAGA Program System is shaping up as more than an administrative improvement. It is an attempt to make one of the barangayโ€™s welfare programs more responsive to the real needs of PWDs, senior citizens and solo parents who depend on timely support in times of illness, hospitalization and loss.

OLONGAPO CITY โ€” Forty trainees under the Committee on Livelihood and Agriculture program of Barangay Sta. Rita recorded a 100 percent passing rate in the SMAW NC II assessment conducted through the Bulacan TESDA Assessment Office, marking a strong result for the barangayโ€™s livelihood skills training effort.

The successful outcome was presented as a major achievement for the program, with all 40 participants passing the assessment for Shielded Metal Arc Welding National Certificate II, a technical qualification that can help open opportunities in employment and skills-based livelihood work.

The result also highlighted the value of community-based training programs that equip residents with practical and industry-relevant skills. Programs like SMAW NC II are often seen as important pathways for those seeking work in construction, fabrication, and related trades, where certified welding skills remain in demand.

Supporters of the program credited the success to the combined efforts of trainers, barangay officials, and livelihood personnel who helped guide the trainees throughout the process. Special acknowledgment was given to Livelihood and Cooperative Development Office trainers Icah Obias Barlomento and Kyle Angelo Soltura for their training and guidance in helping prepare the participants for the assessment.

The barangay leadership was also recognized for backing the program, including Barangay Chairperson Rowena Villanueva Cerezo and Kagawad Jun Legaspi, who was thanked for lending a vehicle that helped support the activity. Also acknowledged were Treasurer Whenggay Rufino and Secretary Ryan Steve Escanlar, along with several livelihood staff members who were cited for their full support to the program.

Those mentioned in the statement included Lilibeth Laudato Estella, Joy Yologo, Nikko Arquilado, Jay R. Ong, Yhang Rivera, and Thupz Ainarepo, all of whom were recognized for helping make the initiative successful. Their involvement reflected the collective effort often needed to carry out barangay-level livelihood programs effectively.

The 100 percent passing rate stands as a notable accomplishment not only for the trainees themselves but also for Barangay Sta. Ritaโ€™s continuing push to support skills development among residents. In many communities, training programs tied to TESDA certifications are valued because they can directly improve employability and help individuals build more stable sources of income.

For the trainees, passing the assessment means they now hold a recognized skills credential that may help them pursue work opportunities in welding and technical trades. For the barangay, the result serves as a sign that local livelihood initiatives can produce meaningful outcomes when backed by training, coordination, and community support.

The achievement was also framed as a reason for the public to continue supporting the livelihood programs of Barangay Sta. Rita. With all 40 trainees passing the SMAW NC II assessment, the program now stands as one of the barangayโ€™s success stories in helping residents gain practical skills and move closer to employment opportunities.
