WALK FOR A CAUSE 2026
SUPPORTS CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

June 2, 2026 | Kabankalan City

Hundreds of advocates, families, local officials, and community members united early today for the meaningful โ€œWalk for a Causeโ€ held on June 2, 2026. The solidarity walk kicked off from the grounds of Kabankalan City Hall and concluded at the City Public Plaza, turning the streets into a path of hope and support for vulnerable children.

Organized as part of the cityโ€™s month-long child welfare advocacy, all proceeds raised from registration fees, sponsorships, and donations during the activity will be fully given to 12 children with special needs in Kabankalan. The funds will directly help cover their daily essential needsโ€”giving these young ones better opportunities to grow, learn, and thrive.

The event was not only a way to raise funds but also to raise public awareness about the rights, inclusion, and care that children with special needs deserve. Together, the community proved that every step counts when it comes to uplifting the lives of our most vulnerable youth.

Happening Yesterday | June 1, 2026 (Monday)

The City Government of Kabankalan, under the leadership of Mayor Benjie M. Miranda, Vice Mayor Divina S. Miranda, and the Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) led by Mrs. Cyril D. Ramos, CSWD Officer, successfully conducted an information and education program in partnership with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the Philippine National Police (PNP), and the officials of Barangay 6 led by Punong Barangay Steve Javellana.

Through the iCARE Program of the Philippine Coast Guard, participants were provided with valuable information regarding the legal requirements, regulations, and procedures related to permits and operations for quarry workers. This initiative aims to promote compliance with existing laws while ensuring the safety, welfare, and livelihood of workers in the quarry industry.

The program also featured a Preventive Drug Education lecture delivered by PCMS Mary June P. Fuentes of the Philippine National Police, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a drug-free workplace and community. In addition, Mrs. Cherilyn B. Alanza of the CSWDO conducted a session on Responsible Parenthood, highlighting the significance of family well-being, proper decision-making, and shared responsibilities in building stronger families and communities.

A total of 50 quarry workers from Barangay 6 participated in the activity and gained valuable knowledge from the various topics discussed. The participants actively engaged in the sessions and expressed appreciation for the information shared by the resource speakers.

This collaborative effort reflects the commitment of government agencies and community leaders to empower workers through education, promote responsible citizenship, encourage compliance with laws and regulations, strengthen family values, and contribute to a safer, healthier, and more productive community.

Together, through awareness, education, and cooperation, we can build a more informed, responsible, and empowered workforce for the continued progress of Kabankalan City.

CSWDO HOLDS CHILD PROTECTION SEMINAR FOR SOLO PARENTS

June 1, 2026 | Kabankalan City

In its continuous advocacy to protect the rights and welfare of children, the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) conducted a special seminar titled โ€œSafeguarding Childhood: Understanding and Preventing Child Sexual Abuseโ€ on June 1, 2026, at the Function Hall of the Kabankalan Training Center.

The activity gathered 100 solo parents, officers, and members representing all 32 barangays of the city โ€” the primary target audience, as they serve as the first line of defense and care for children in their households and communities. It was organized under the guidance of Sector Focal Person Jean A. Palmares, RSW, Social Welfare Officer I.

Resource speakers shared vital knowledge and practical guidelines to help participants recognize, prevent, and report cases of child sexual abuse. Leading the discussions were PCMS Juliet Dimpo, Chief of the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) of Kabankalan Component Police Station, and Ms. Kimberly C. Lorenton, RSW, Social Welfare Officer II of CSWDO. They tackled the forms and signs of abuse, legal provisions, proper reporting procedures, and ways to build safe, protective environments for children.

Honored guests who graced the event included SPM Helen Q. Ibaรฑez, Committee Chair on Women, Family, Children and Education; Dr. Jose Novo Dagunan, Executive Assistant to the City Mayor; and Genevieve G. Salas, Executive Assistant to the City Vice Mayor. Their presence underscored the local governmentโ€™s full support and commitment to child protection programs.

To make the session interactive and engaging, the program combined educational lectures, open forum, and group discussions with fun games and energizer activities โ€” ensuring participants learned actively while connecting with fellow parents and advocates.

This initiative is part of CSWDOโ€™s sustained efforts to empower families, especially solo parents, with the right information and skills to safeguard every childโ€™s safety, innocence, and future.
