Rooted by her personal values of commitment, dedication, hard work, courage, integrity, respect, responsibility, equality, fairness, and justice, Rodelyn V. Mahinay, the school principal of Basak Integrated School in Nabunturan, Davao de Oro, firmly believes that to be an effective leader, you have to start serving the school as an obedient follower.
Before becoming a school head herself, Ma'am Lyn, as she is fondly called, had worked with nine school heads, including the late Mr. Ritchell E. Cruz and the retired Education Program Supervisor, Mrs. Rosita A. Paican, whose different leadership styles have shaped the kind of leader that she is now.
In just five years, Ma'am Lyn has steered Basak IS as far as the Regional Level as Brigada Eskwela Best Implementing School in Small Category (Secondary), Most Outstanding Project WATCH School Implementer in the District Level, and reached Level 3 in the School Based Management for the School Year 2020-2021.
Humble as ever, she always acknowledges her team's efforts and contributions since she also used to be a team player for the 22 years that she has served the Department of Education as a classroom teacher.
When asked of her leadership principle, Ma'am Lyn emphasized her strong affinity to John Maxwell's words, "๐ผ ๐ก๐๐๐๐๐ง ๐๐จ ๐ค๐ฃ๐ ๐ฌ๐๐ค ๐ ๐ฃ๐ค๐ฌ๐จ ๐ฉ๐๐ ๐ฌ๐๐ฎ, ๐๐ค๐๐จ ๐ฉ๐๐ ๐ฌ๐๐ฎ, ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐จ๐๐ค๐ฌ๐จ ๐ฉ๐๐ ๐ฌ๐๐ฎ."
In order to know the way, one must practice being a good follower first.
