Sa pagdiriwang ng 𝗡𝗥𝗔𝗠 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 ngayong buwan ng Nobyembre na may temang “Be RiCEPONSIBLE,” inaanyayahan ang mga magsasaka, mangingisda, extension workers, kabataan, at iba pang stakeholder na ipamalas ang kanilang pagkamalikhain sa pagguhit sa 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 : 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿-𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁!

• Bukas sa lahat ng magsasaka, extension workers, mangingisda, kabataan, at iba pang stakeholder sa rehiyon ng MIMAROPA na may edad 16–50 taong gulang.

• Ang mga poster ay dapat sumalamin sa temang “Be Riceponsible” at itampok ang kahalagahan ng palay o bigas, gayundin ang pagsisikap ng mga magsasakang patuloy na nagtataguyod sa seguridad sa pagkain ng ating bansa.
• Ang mga entry ay hindi dapat maglaman ng sensitibo, nakasasakit, o mapanirang nilalaman.

• Hindi pinapayagan ang digitized o computer-generated outputs; tanging handmade artworks lamang ang tatanggapin.

• Upang matiyak ang orihinalidad ng gawa, isumite ang mga sumusunod:
a. Malinaw na close-up na larawan ng iyong artwork.
b. Larawan ng kalahok kasama ang artwork.
c. Timelapse video ng buong proseso ng pagguhit.

A Comprehensive Surveillance for Avian Influenza (AI) conducted in our municipality.

MAO -Gasan assisted eight (8) staff of DA-RFO IV-MIMAROPA under Livestock Regulatory Division for their Avian Influenza Protection Program. About 93 samples were being collected at barangay Cabugao and Tiguion.

What is Avian Influenza (AI)?

It is also known as BIRD FLU is a highly contagious viral infection that primarily affects birds, but certain strains can infect humans and other animals as well. It is caused by influenza type A viruses that occur naturally among wild aquatic birds and can spread to domestic poultry and other bird species.

Causative Agent:

Virus: Influenza A virus (Orthomyxoviridae family)
Subtypes: Defined by two surface proteins
Hemagglutinin (H) — 18 known types (H1–H18)
Neuraminidase — 11 known types (N1–N11)

Common pathogenic strains:

Low Pathogenic Avian Influenza (LPAI): Causes mild symptoms.

Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI): Causes severe disease and high mortality in birds — e.g., H5N1, H7N9, H5N8, H5N6.

Transmission:

Bird-to-bird: Direct contact with infected birds’ secretions (saliva, nasal discharge, f***s).

Indirect transmission: Through contaminated feed, water, cages, clothing, or equipment.

To humans: Through close contact with infected birds or contaminated environments (rare but serious).

What are the Symptoms:

In Birds:

1.Sudden death (especially with HPAI)
2.Decreased egg production
3.Swelling of head, comb, wattles
4.Respiratory distress (coughing, sneezing)
5.Nervous signs (tremors, paralysis)

In Humans (depending on strain):

1.Fever, cough, sore throat
2.Muscle aches, fatigue
3.Conjunctivitis
4.Severe respiratory illness, pneumonia
5.High mortality rate with H5N1 and H7N9

What are the Prevention and Controls:

Biosecurity: Restrict movement, disinfect equipment, prevent contact between wild and domestic birds.

Surveillance: Early detection and rapid response programs.

Culling: Depopulation of infected flocks.

Vaccination: Used in some regions for specific strains.

Human protection: PPE for poultry workers, avoid live bird markets, cook poultry thoroughly.

The Municipal Agriculture Office, distributed 86 bags (20 kilos) of rice seeds to 66 recipients under Rehabilitation and Recovery Program under TS Mirasol, Nando, Opong, Southwes Monsoon from DA-RFO in coordination with the Office of the Provincial Agriculture.

The allocation of bags depends on the reported damaged area.

𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐒𝐔 𝐂𝐅𝐀𝐒 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 18𝐭𝐡 𝐅𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐲

The College of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences (CFAS) of Marinduque State University (MarSU) officially opened its 18th Fishery Week celebration in conjunction with the 62nd Fish Conservation Week and MANA MO 2025, held on October 7, 2025, at the MarSU Gasan Campus Grounds.

With the theme “Pangisdaang Masagana, Sapat na Isda sa Bawat Pamilya" the weeklong event highlights the importance of sustainable fisheries, environmental stewardship, and community involvement in aquatic resource management.

The program began with a solemn Prayer and Preliminaries, followed by warm Opening Remarks from Dr. Alexander M. Pascua, Campus Director, who expressed pride in CFAS’s continued commitment to innovation and environmental sustainability. The Unfurling of the Banner symbolized unity and dedication among students, faculty, and partner institutions.

Distinguished guests graced the ceremony, Ms. Vanessa Tayaba (Municipal Agriculture Officer, MAO Gasan), Ms. Rowena Bishop (Private Secretary, Office of the Mayor), Ms. Jessica Salcedo (Staff, Office of the Mayor), Mr. Joel G. Malaban (BFAR Provincial Office), and Mr. Felix Echavaria Jr. (Agriculturist II, Provincial Agriculture Office) also joined the event, showing their full support for the university’s fisheries initiatives and extension programs.

Completing the guestlist was Asso.Prof. Marvin P. Plata, the Vice-President for Student Affairs and Services (VPSAS), who gave his message of commendations for the College and the student organizations, and Mr. Ronilo Rolloque, the Chairman of the Samahan ng Mangingisda ng Castillo (SAMACA), who also gave his message of inspirations for students and guests during the event.

CFAS Dean Dr. Paloma D. De Chavez delivered an inspiring message emphasizing collaboration, responsible fisheries management, and the role of education in sustaining local livelihoods. Meanwhile, PFO Joel G. Malabanan from the BFAR Provincial Fishery Office gave a message from the partner industry, reinforcing the strong partnership between BFAR and MarSU in advancing local fisheries and fish conservation projects.

Asst. Prof. Regie F. Mampusti, Program Chair of BS in Fisheries, delivered the Closing Remarks, extending appreciation to all guests, students, and faculty for their active participation and ongoing support.

The ceremony concluded with a joyful Photo Opportunity and Ribbon Cutting, led by College and guest officials, symbolizing the official start of the 18th Fishery Week celebration.

The event was hosted by Roselle S. Ramirez and Kimberly L. Sol, who kept the program lively and engaging. The opening day set the tone for a week filled with educational, environmental, and community-centered activities, strengthening MarSU’s commitment to nurturing a sustainable and prosperous fisheries sector.

UNIFA receives 21 heads of livestock from DA-LEED

The United Farmers Association (UNIFA) proudly received 21 heads of animal stocks under the Department of Agriculture’s Livestock Economic Enterprise Development (LEED) Program, through the efforts of DA Regional Field Office IV-B (MIMAROPA).

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the DA-RFO IV-B through their DA APCO Marinduque and PCIC- Marinduque for their continuous support in promoting sustainable agriculture and enterprise development.

This valuable support will empower our farmers, improve food security, and contribute to the overall economic growth of our community.
