The MPC Community and the public are strongly reminded to heed the warnings regarding Super Typhoon Uwan.

Official Weather Bulletin Summary:
• Classification: Typhoon Uwan may escalate to a SUPER TYPHOON (possible Signal Number 5 wind signals) upon entering the PAR.
• Expected Impact: The typhoon is anticipated to be felt by Sunday, potentially making landfall in Northern, Central, or Southern Luzon.
• Affected Areas: Due to its wide coverage, the typhoon poses a threat to the entire country.
• Hazards: Heavy rainfall is expected across many regions.

Individuals are urged to prioritize safety and follow these preparedness measures:
• Secure Shelter: Stay indoors and remain calm.
• Emergency Kit: Stock up on food, water, and first aid supplies.
• Communication: Have a flashlight and radio with fresh batteries available.
• Monitor: Continuously monitor official weather reports and updates.
• Evacuate: Evacuate immediately if advised by local authorities.
• Safety: Avoid low-lying areas and be prepared to turn off utilities (electricity, gas, water) if flooding occurs.

The public is advised to complete necessary preparations now and stay alert for further advisories.

Here are some safety preparations for the preparedness of Typhoon Opong:

• Stay indoors and Keep Calm.
• Stock Up on Food, Water, Cloth, First Aid and Emergency Kit.

• Evacuate If Necessary.
• Trim Trees Near Your House.
• Keep Roads Clear For Emergency Vehicles.
• Turn Off Electricity, Gas And Water In Case Of Flooding.
• Avoid Low-laying Areas, Cliffs & Foothills. Do Not Cross Flowing Streams.

The 3-Day In House ISO 45001:2018 Training has successfully conducted from August 4-6, 2025 in collaboration with Quality Plus Management Consulting Co.

On the final day, Mr. Palaca and Ms. Faustino led a discussion on the importance of risk assessment and control. Following their presentation, participants presented their risk assessment and control plans for each domain of the Marikina Polytechnic College.

Mr. Henry O. Palaca led the morning session, continuing the discussion on the core requirements of ISO 45001:2018.

In the afternoon, Ms. Faustine Francisco, a Junior Consultant at Quality Plus Management Consulting Co., presented on Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control (HIRARC). This was followed by a group activity where each institutional domain presented their HIRAC findings. Ms. Francisco and Mr. Palaca provided valuable feedback, comments, and recommendations on each presentation.

On August 4, 2025, a three-day in-house training on the ISO 45001:2018 standard for Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems (OHSMS) began.

The morning session was led by Mr. Henry O. Palaca, the President and Management Consultant of Quality Plus Management Consulting Co. He discussed the core requirements of ISO 45001:2018.

In the afternoon, the training delegates participated in a group discussion and presentation focused on SWOT analysis. Following the presentations, Mr. Mr. Henry O. Palaca and the delegates provided comments and suggestions on each group's work.

On March 18, 2024, Marikina Polytechnic College, in alignment with the EOSH Department, successfully conducted a Fire and Earthquake Drill within the campus. Both teaching and non-teaching staff, along with students, actively participated to enhance preparedness for emergencies.

The drill included rescue operations for trapped individuals and casualties, proper use of fire extinguishers, firetruck hose operation, and a fire safety lecture.

A huge thank you to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) for their assistance and presence, ensuring a smooth and educational drill.

Safety starts with awareness and action, MPC, together with the EOSH Department and BFP, remains committed to disaster preparedness!

In line with the upcoming Earthquake and Fire Drill, the Environmental, Occupational Safety and Health (EOSH) shares this informative video to guide everyone on the proper response when alarms are heard.

Here are the three (3) types of alarms that will be used during the drill:

1️⃣ First Alarm – Earthquake Alarm:
Once heard, immediately perform "Drop, Cover, and Hold" until the shaking stops. Stay away from windows, glass, and heavy objects that may fall.

2️⃣ Second Alarm – Fire Alarm:
This signals a fire scenario. Prepare for evacuation. Check surroundings and get ready to move safely.

3️⃣ Third Alarm – Evacuation Alarm:
Upon hearing this alarm, proceed calmly and orderly to the designated evacuation area. Follow marshals and safety officers assigned to guide you.

NOTE: These alarms will be played in clips and are solely for drill purposes to strengthen our preparedness and response during actual emergencies.

The Environmental, Occupational Safety and Health (EOSH) held a coordination meeting on March 7, 2024, together with the assigned teaching and non-teaching staff and student organizations designated as marshals, in preparation for the upcoming Earthquake and Fire Drill.

The meeting focused on finalizing key aspects of the drill, including assigned roles and responsibilities, evacuation routes, assembly areas, and communication procedures to ensure an orderly and safe conduct of the activity.

This initiative highlights the college's commitment to promoting safety, preparedness, and awareness among its community members.
