The Flood Mitigation Committee (FMC) Meeting serves as vital collaborative forum for key stakeholders, including LGUs along Pasig and Marikina Rivers and designated community observers. Facilitated under the Pasig-Marikina River Channel Improvement Project ( PMRCIP) of the DPWH, these regular gatherings bridge the gap between engineering and local impact.

Core objective is to provide transparent communication, provides a formal platform for the DPWH to deliver real-time project updates, ensuring all parties are aligned on timelines and progress. It allows Stakeholders Engagement, it function as a query window, allowing local leaders and residents to share insights, voice concerns, and offer localized expertise.

A non-structural resilience, complements physical infrastructure by fostering community resilience and improving disaster preparedness at the grassroots level. And lastly, it collaborate problem solving, enables proactive resolution of social issues through direct dialogues between project proponent and the affected communities.

During his official visit to the Philippines, Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs Motegi Toshimitsu underscored the enduring partnership between the two nations, beginning with a ceremonial wreath-laying at Rizal Park to honor the country’s national heritage. He subsequently conducted an on-site inspection of the Pasig-Marikina River Channel Improvement Project, an Official Development Assistance (ODA) initiative.

This visit served as a testament to nearly fifty years of bilateral cooperation in disaster mitigation, a legacy that includes the pivotal construction of the Manggahan Floodway. On-site, Minister Motegi engaged in high-level strategic dialogues with MMDA Undersecretary Frisco San Juan and DPWH Senior Undersecretary Emil Sadain, focusing on sophisticated measures to expand flood control capacity across Metro Manila and its surrounding areas. These discussions aimed at refining implementation methods and strategies to enhance flood control capacity in Metro Manila and its surrounding areas, as well as on the methods for implementing these initiatives.

Following the inspection, the insights gained from the discussions prompted a collaborative exchange with other economic cabinet members. This meeting specifically focused on identifying ways to further strengthen the collective approach and ensure stability.
