NATIONAL MARITIME CENTER CONGRATULATES NEWLY PROMOTED PCG FLAG OFFICERS

The National Maritime Center (NM Center) extends its warmest congratulations to the newly promoted Flag Officers of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), who took their Oath of Office before President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during a ceremony at Malacañan Palace on 01 September 2026.

Among the newly promoted Flag Officers is Vice Admiral ALLEN J DALANGIN PCG, Acting Director of the National Maritime Center.

The NM Center takes pride in this achievement and looks forward to VADM Dalangin’s continued leadership and service in advancing maritime security, strengthening interagency coordination, and promoting a safer and more secure Philippine maritime domain.

THE NATIONAL MARITIME CENTER JOINS MANA MO 2026 CELEBRATION

The National Maritime Center joins the nation in celebrating the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANA Mo) 2026 this September, with the theme “Karapatan sa Karagatan, Sama-sama Nating Alagaan.”

As an archipelagic nation, our seas are more than just boundaries between islands. They connect our communities, sustain livelihoods, support our economy, and contribute to our national security.

This MANA Mo, we are reminded of our shared responsibility to understand, protect, and responsibly use our maritime spaces and resources. Let us note that safeguarding our seas also means strengthening maritime awareness, upholding our maritime rights, and working together to keep our waters secure for generations to come!

In Loving Memory of CPO Allan Paul Delos Santos PCG

The National Maritime Center (NM Center) and its Regional Coordinating Center (RCC) Palawan family join in honoring the life, service, and lasting contributions of CPO Allan Paul Delos Santos PCG.

Throughout his years of service, he shared his time, knowledge, dedication, and commitment with the RCC Pal and NMC family.

Beyond the work he accomplished, we will remember him as a colleague and member of our family who served with dedication and purpose. His contributions may be reflected in our work, but his impact will live on in the people he worked with.

We extend our deepest sympathies to his family, loved ones, colleagues, and friends.

THE NATIONAL MARITIME CENTER JOINS THE COMMEMORATION OF THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE 2016 SOUTH CHINA SEA ARBITRAL AWARD

The National Maritime Center (NM Center) joins the nation in commemorating the 10th Anniversary of the 2016 South China Sea Arbitral Award, a landmark decision that continues to uphold the rule of law, the peaceful settlement of disputes, and the maritime rights and entitlements of the Philippines under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

As the country's operational coordinating center for maritime domain awareness and information sharing, the NM Center remains committed to strengthening interagency coordination, enhancing maritime domain awareness, and supporting whole-of-society efforts to promote maritime security, safety, and good governance in the Philippine maritime domain.

The NM Center reaffirms its commitment to advancing a rules-based maritime order anchored on international law while fostering cooperation among maritime stakeholders in safeguarding the country's maritime interests. As the nation marks this significant milestone, the NM Center stands united with all Filipinos in promoting a secure, peaceful, and prosperous maritime future.

The National Maritime Center, EU CRIMARIO III, and EU ESIWA+ Successfully Concluded Exercise Alalayan 2026

MANILA, Philippines, 22 May 2026 – The National Maritime Center (NM Center), in partnership with the European Union in the Philippines through EU Crimario III and EU ESIWA+ (Enhancing the EU’s Security Cooperation in and with Asia and the Indo-Pacific), successfully concluded Exercise Alalayan 2026, the fourth iteration of the NM Center’s interagency maritime crisis response exercise, held from 19 to 21 May 2026 in Manila.

The activity brought together representatives from 31 Philippine government agencies involved in maritime security, maritime domain awareness, law enforcement, emergency response, cybersecurity, and disaster management. The exercise strengthened the interoperability, information sharing, and coordinated responses of all concerned agencies to increasingly complex maritime threats and emergencies.

The three-day activity commenced with a training on the Indo-Pacific Regional Information Sharing (IORIS) platform on 19 May, followed by the Interagency Response to Large-Scale Maritime Crises Forum on 20 May. The exercise culminated on 21 May with a Command Post Exercise (CPX) and Tabletop Exercise (TTX), testing interagency coordination and decision-making in response to complex maritime emergencies. This year’s scenarios focused on a cyber-physical maritime incident involving a maritime accident and search-and-rescue operations, as well as a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) and dangerous-cargo maritime incident.

During the Opening Ceremony, Vice Admiral Allen J. Dalangin PCG, Acting Director of the NM Center, underscored the importance of sustained cooperation in addressing increasingly complex maritime challenges. “As maritime threats continue to grow more complex and interconnected, no single agency or nation can address them alone. Challenges such as illegal fishing, smuggling, maritime piracy, maritime terrorism, and other transnational crimes require sustained cooperation and coordinated action.”

The exercise was attended by senior Philippine government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the European Union, participating national agencies, and partner organizations committed to promoting maritime security, stability, and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region. Among the distinguished guests was Secretary Andres C. Centino, Presidential Assistant for Maritime Concerns, who served as the Guest of Honor and Speaker during the Opening Ceremony.

OFFICIAL AND UNMISTAKABLE

The National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA) on Wednesday, Feb. 18, reminded the public that the West Philippine Sea label has been used in all official Philippine maps since 2012.

The agency clarified that the country’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) is shown as a continuous curved boundary, in line with international law.

“In light of ongoing public discussions, NAMRIA wishes to clarify the manner by which the country’s Exclusive Economic Zone is represented,” NAMRIA stated.

NAMRIA explained that under international law, the EEZ extends up to 200 nautical miles from the country’s archipelagic baselines, creating a continuous curved boundary rather than a polygon with straight lines.

Because of this, a short list of coordinates would not accurately show the maritime limit; instead, the boundary is mapped using precise geospatial data from RA 9522, allowing navigation systems and mapping software to determine it correctly.

11 February 2026 – Manila – National Maritime Center Welcomes Delegates of the Southeast Asia Media Visit Program (SMMVP)

The National Maritime Center (NM Center) welcomed delegates of the Southeast Asia Media Visit Program (SMMVP) on 11 February 2026 at the National Maritime Center Building in South Harbor, Manila.

The delegation was led by Professor Rebecca Strating of La Trobe Asia and composed of media practitioners, academics, and representatives from partner institutions across Southeast Asia and Australia. Representatives from the Australian Embassy were also present during the said visit. The group was received by Captain Severino Destura Jr. PCG, Chief of the Information Operations Group of the National Maritime Center, on behalf of Vice Admiral Roy A. Echeverria, PCG, Director of the NM Center.

During the visit, the NM Center provided a comprehensive briefing on its mandate, organizational structure, and operational functions under Executive Order No. 57 (s. 2024). The presentation highlighted the Center’s role in maritime domain awareness, inter-agency coordination, and monitoring of maritime security challenges.

Participants engaged in an open dialogue on capacity-building initiatives, technological platforms for information sharing, and cooperation with regional and international partners.

26 January 2026 - Manila – Royal Australian Navy Visits the National Maritime Center

The National Maritime Center (NM Center), headed by VADM ROY A ECHEVERRIA, PCG, welcomed the delegation from the Royal Australian Navy during a courtesy visit at the NM Center in Manila.

The Australian delegation was led by VADM MARK DAVID HAMMOND, Chief of Navy of the Royal Australian Navy. Also present during the visit were from the Philippine Navy, led by RADM JOE ANTHONY C ORBE, PN, Commander of the Philippine Fleet Navy.

The visit underscored the strong and enduring partnership between the Philippines and Australia, anchored on shared values and a common commitment to maintaining peace, stability, and security in the maritime domain. Discussions highlighted areas of cooperation in maritime security, maritime domain awareness, information sharing, training, and capacity-building initiatives. Both sides emphasized the importance of continued dialogue and collaboration in addressing evolving maritime challenges, particularly in the region.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation and expressed optimism for deeper collaboration in the years ahead. The National Maritime Center looks forward to sustained engagement with the Royal Australian Navy, the Philippine Navy, and Australian partners in advancing shared maritime security objectives.
