Hindi po lahat ng inihahain sa atin ay dapat sunggaban. Unang-una, natuto ba tayong humingi muna ng gabay sa mas nakatataas sa lahat? Kumonekta na ba tayo’t nakakapakinig ba tayo mula naman sa Kanya? Pinagmamasdan ba natin ang sariling atin na pinagpapala sa likas na ganda at yaman, nguni’t atin lamang sisirain sa ngalan ng kamunduhan, sisirain nang hindi na maipamamana pa? Ano’ng kinabukasan ang para sa ating mga anak? Pinag-aaralan ba muna natin ang tutoong mga nangyayari sa labas ng bansa, ang mga nararanasan nila ngayon, lalo na sa mismong pinanggagalingan ng makabagong Teknolohiya na inaayawan na ng kanila mismong mga mamamayan na halos lahat ay nagsisisi?
Ihinto natin ang kahibangan na siyang nagpapasimula ng mas marami pang kahibangan, mas matinding pagkakahati-hati, at kamatayan sa aktuwal pati na sa birtuwal na realidad. Huwag umpisahan ang dinadala nila dito dahil may pag-asa pa tayo sa ngayon. Mas may pag-asa pa tayo kesa sa kanila. Tanggapin natin ang ating pagkakamali’t lumapit na tayo sa ating Dinidiyos.

When Authorities fail to monitor, correct, remedy, stabilize things that impact our lives, we all suffer in this thread of life. If it would just be left to the politicians, they’d only be upending their priorities, negating what steps the citizens have been taking to bring about a Bagong Pilipinas. We should be examining closely what projects are being appropriated with those breathtaking kinds of budgetings if we want to see us actually uplift our nation. Powerful lobbyists cannot continue to squeeze us dry, maawa naman sana sa bayan!

If we can still think from our own brains in conjunction with the rhythm of our hearts, in the condition and circumstances we find ourselves in— we can face this unique challenge with The Almighty around and if we’re a collective under a whole-of-Nation approach, we certainly can help ourselves.

Save our waters asap! Save our environments. Proactively protect what we have from invasive elements, from water pollutants, contaminants, from energy-intensive suckers of natural resources — of big tracts of land, water, air. Save our food-producing farmlands. Let’s defend against Data Centers being established everywhere catering to Artificial Intelligence (AI), to Synthetic Intelligence, that even take over the jobs of humans. This alone should make us see that we’re creating a monster which will eventually cause untold damages to the entire ecosystem.

California made environmental history by becoming the first state in the nation to outlaw the commercial sale and import of farmed octopuses, a move designed to preemptively halt an emerging global aquaculture market.

Governor Gavin Newsom officially signed the Oppose Cruelty to Octopuses (OCTO) Act (AB 3162) into law, with full enforcement taking effect on January 1, 2025.

While Washington state passed the nation's first proactive ban on the production of farmed octopuses, California’s law went a step further by entirely shutting down its massive domestic consumer marketplace to imported, farm-raised cephalopod products.

The landmark legislation was heavily driven by extensive marine biology research highlighting the profound cognitive complexity of cephalopods.

Octopuses possess an exceptionally advanced, decentralized nervous system where two-thirds of their neurons are located entirely within their arms.

This unique structure allows them to demonstrate sophisticated cognitive behaviors, including independent problem-solving, tool utilization, and long-term memory mapping.

Marine scientists testified that because octopuses are solitary, territorial, and strictly carnivorous predators, intensively confining them in high-density underwater tanks would inevitably trigger severe psychological stress, aggressive cannibalism, and immense suffering.

Beyond critical ethical considerations, lawmakers cited severe ecological risks associated with cephalopod aquaculture.

Octopus farms generate high concentrations of nitrogen and phosphorus waste, which threaten surrounding marine habitats with toxic algal blooms.

The OCTO Act was championed as a vital victory for both aquatic animal welfare and marine conservation.

I strongly condemn the deployment by the People's Republic of China of a floating structure within the waters of Scarborough Shoal (Bajo de Masinloc/Panatag Shoal), an area that lies well within the Philippines' Exclusive Economic Zone and over which the Philippines enjoys sovereign rights and jurisdiction under international law.

Philippine authorities have determined that the structure is a manned floating platform equipped with communications or monitoring equipment and is believed to be engaged in maritime research and data-gathering activities without the authorization or consent of the Philippine Government.

While Chinese authorities have attempted to characterize the platform as a scientific or environmental monitoring facility, its presence constitutes yet another unauthorized intrusion into Philippine maritime zones and a direct affront to Philippine sovereignty and sovereign rights.

The Filipino people have every reason to view this latest development with grave concern. China's actions in the South China Sea have long followed a familiar and deeply troubling pattern. What begins as a seemingly innocuous civilian presence, a temporary structure, a fishing encampment, or a research activity often evolves into a sustained occupation, followed by the construction of permanent facilities, extensive land reclamation, military fortifications, and the assertion of unlawful control over our sovereign maritime features.

The world has witnessed this pattern before. Features that once consisted of small outposts or temporary installations were gradually transformed into heavily fortified artificial islands equipped with airstrips, ports, radar systems, missile facilities, and military garrisons. The international community was repeatedly assured that such activities were peaceful and limited in scope, only to see those assurances overtaken by the reality of militarization and effective occupation.

It is therefore neither alarmist nor speculative to question the true purpose and long-term implications of this newly deployed floating platform. Prudence requires us to evaluate China's actions not merely by its official statements but by its established conduct over the past decade. The deployment of monitoring equipment and the collection of maritime data within Philippine waters may well be intended to support future efforts to consolidate control over Scarborough Shoal and further restrict the lawful rights of Filipino fishermen and maritime authorities.

This latest incursion likewise demonstrates China's continuing disregard for the 2016 Arbitral Award, which unequivocally invalidated the legal basis of its expansive maritime claims in the South China Sea. No amount of floating structures, artificial installations, or unilateral actions can create rights where none exist under international law.

We therefore call upon China to immediately remove the floating platform from Scarborough Shoal, cease all unauthorized activities within Philippine maritime zones, and comply with its obligations under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and the binding arbitral ruling.

We further call upon our partners in the international community to remain vigilant against incremental actions designed to alter the status quo through coercion and faits accomplis. Respect for international law, freedom of navigation, and the peaceful resolution of disputes remain essential to regional peace and stability.

Scarborough Shoal is not merely a disputed maritime feature. It is a symbol of our nation's sovereign rights, our fishermen's livelihood, and our commitment to a rules-based international order. The Philippines must stand firm against any attempt to normalize unlawful encroachments and must remain resolute in defending the West Philippine Sea for present and future generations of Filipinos.
