Looking back: 25 years ago, the story of Golden Rice captured global attention when it was featured on the cover of TIME Magazine.

In July 2000, Time spotlighted Golden Rice—rice genetically engineered to produce beta carotene in the grain—through a landmark article featuring co-inventor Prof. Ingo Potrykus on the cover.

The article explored how scientific innovations can address humanitarian challenges, highlighting Golden Rice’s potential to help address vitamin A deficiency, which remains a prevalent public health concern to this day.

Noong Hulyo 4, 2023, sa ginanap na selebrasyon ng Nutrition Month sa Lungsod ng Batac, Ilocos Norte, ay unang ipinatikim sa mga bata at kanilang mga nanay ang Malusog Rice!

Masaya at ganadong kinain ng mga bata ang Malusog Rice. Dahil sa kaakit-akit nitong kulay—patunay na may taglay itong beta carotene—karamihan sa kanila ay naka-dalawa hanggang tatlong balik pa!

Tunay ngang pasado sa panlasa ng mga bata ang masarap at masustansyang Malusog Rice! Nawa ay maulit ito sa mga susunod na selebrasyon ng Nutrition Month!

Alam mo ba?

Higit sa 118.81kg ng kanin kada taon ang ating nauubos ayon sa Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

Tunay ngang “Rice is Life!” sa ating mga Pilipino kaya naman mas mainam kung ang ating kanin ay masustansya din! Sabayan din natin ito ng prutas at gulay para sa mas malusog at masiglang katawan.

The Golden Rice Project

Golden Rice is part of the Healthier Rice Project, which aims to develop and deploy healthier rice varieties to improve the nutritional and health status of the poor in Asia, particularly the Philippines and Bangladesh. Golden Rice is a new type of rice that contains beta carotene, a source of vitamin A. It is developed as complementary intervention to address Vitamin A deficiency.
