LGU Makilala Conducts Gender-Fair Language Seminar to Promote Inclusive and Gender-Responsive Public Service

The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Makilala, through the Office of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development (MSWDO) successfully conducted the Gender-Fair Language Seminar funded under the Gender and Development (GAD) Fund. The seminar was implemented in two batches at the Municipal Function Hall, Makilala, Cotabato. The first batch was held on July 9, 2026, with 91 participants composed of LGU Department Heads and Supervisory Level Employees (42 males and 49 females), while the second batch was conducted on July 28, 2026, with 60 participants consisting of Barangay Chairpersons, VAWC Desk Officers, Municipal GFPS and TWG Members, and LCAT-VAWC Members (16 males and 44 females).

The activity aimed to strengthen the participants' understanding of gender-fair language as an essential tool in promoting gender equality, respect, and inclusivity in government service. Through the seminar, participants gained practical knowledge on the appropriate use of gender-sensitive and non-discriminatory language in communication, policies, official documents, and day-to-day interactions. More importantly, the training reinforced the responsibility of public servants to uphold fairness, respect diversity, and foster an environment where every individual feels valued and represented, ultimately contributing to a more gender-responsive and inclusive local governance.

The LGU of Makilala expresses its sincere gratitude to the Provincial Government of Cotabato, under the leadership of Hon. Emmylou Taliรฑo-Mendoza, for its invaluable support by providing Mr. Junmar C. Gonzales, Population Officer II, whose expertise and engaging discussions greatly enhanced the learning experience of all participants. Likewise, heartfelt appreciation is extended to the supportive and dynamic Municipal Mayor, Hon. Armando M. Quibod, for his unwavering commitment to advancing gender and development initiatives and for continuously investing in capacity-building opportunities that empower LGU personnel and community stakeholders toward a more equitable, respectful, and gender-responsive Municipality of Makilala.

On July 23, 2026, a total of 176 qualified senior citizen Octogenarian and Nonagenarian grantees from the Municipality of Makilala received their cash gifts of 10,000 pesos through the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) in coordination with the Local Government Unit of Makilala . The distribution forms part of the government's continued implementation of the Expanded Centenarians Act (Republic Act No. 11982), recognizing and supporting senior citizens who reach milestone ages of 80, 85, 90, 95 and 100 years old.

More than financial assistance, the cash gift brought smiles and peace of mind to many of our elderly beneficiaries. For them, it is a reminder that their years of hard work, sacrifices, and contributions to society are valued and remembered.

One of the beneficiaries shared her heartfelt gratitude during a brief interview:
