Limasawa National High School conducted a coordination meeting with DILG, PNP, BFP, MDRRMO, Punong Barangays and all School Heads in preparation for the Nationwide Simulation Exercise to capacitate and assess the preparedness of schools in responding to a potential armed threat. The activity emphasized the importance of immediate, coordinated, and appropriate actions among school personnel and learners to ensure safety and minimize risks during an emergency in close coordination with Natl Govt Agencies, LGU and Barangay Officials highlighting the formulation of concrete School Contingency Plan.

The meeting also highlighted the unique geographic location of Limasawa National High School, situated on an island where access to immediate assistance from neighboring Local Government Units (LGUs) is limited. Due to the island’s geographic isolation and dependence on sea transportation, external emergency response and reinforcement may not be readily available during the critical initial minutes of an incident.

In view of this situation, the meeting underscored the need for strong school-level preparedness thru formulation of a concrete contingency plan with clear emergency protocols, effective communication to be tested on the scheduled nationwide simex, and close coordination with local authorities and responders within the island.

The activity served as an important reminder that, while outside assistance remains essential, the school must be capable of implementing immediate protective measures and managing the situation until additional support becomes available.

On August 19–20, 2026, a two-day activity on the Balangay Seal Program and SICAP-BADAC was conducted to strengthen the municipality’s capacity in preventing and addressing the illegal drug problem. The activity provided an avenue for local stakeholders to deepen their understanding of anti-drug strategies, enhance coordination, and reinforce community-based approaches in maintaining a drug-free and peaceful community.

The Balangay Seal is an award recognizing municipalities for successfully achieving drug-cleared communities, while SICAP (Strengthening Institutional Capacities) -BADAC is a capacity-building program empowering Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils to implement anti-drug initiatives effectively.

For an island municipality, strengthening anti-drug efforts is especially important because geographic isolation and limited access to services can present unique challenges in monitoring, prevention, and response. Through programs such as Balangay Seal and SICAP-BADAC, local government units, law enforcement agencies, and communities are better equipped to work together, protect vulnerable sectors, and sustain proactive measures against illegal drugs.

The successful conduct of the two-day activity reaffirmed the municipality’s commitment to a stronger, more coordinated, and community-driven anti-drug campaign, recognizing that safeguarding an island community requires collective vigilance, active participation, and sustained partnership among all stakeholders.

“Nutrisyon at Kalikasan, Ating Pangalagaan!"💚

The Municipality of Limasawa worked hand-in-hand to celebrate with a colorful and mouthwatering aromas of healthy local cuisine Nutrition Month. Guided by the visionary leadership of Municipal Mayor Melchor Petracorta, the island municipality transformed simply into a bustling hub of community spirit, underscoring the vital connection between proper nutrition, local agriculture, and public wellness.

The event’s success was a true testament to inter-agency synergy. Our Municipal Nutrition Action Officer Ms. Remigilda Salomon, MSWD Officer Jessamin M. Rin, Municipal Agriculture Office Vilma Montemayor, Municipal Health Officer Dr. Joyce Ann Masigan and the ever supportive Sangguniang Bayan pooled their expertise and time to deliver a holistic celebration. On the ground, the heart of the movement—the ever-energetic Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) and Barangay Health Workers (BHWs)—worked tirelessly alongside the Liga ng mga Barangay, spearheaded by LnB President Hon. Jerry S. Senoc, ensuring every corner of the island was engaged.

The highlight of the festivities was the dual attraction of the Agri-Aqua Fair and the Barangay Cooking Contest. Freshly harvested crops, vibrant local vegetables, and the day’s freshest catch from Limasawa's rich waters were proudly displayed by each community, showcasing the island’s abundant natural resources, as the island’s 6 barangays together with the Fisherfolks, Farmers and Women's Organizations showcased their culinary ingenuity:

Barangay Lugsongan, led by Hon. Gay L. Reyes

Barangay Magallanes, led by Hon. Ram P. Galvez

Barangay San Bernardo, led by Hon. Milagrosa C. Palerso

Barangay Triana, led by Hon. Michael R. Espina

Barangay San Agustin, led by Hon. Renato S. Miras

Barangay Cabulihan, led by Hon. Jerry S. Senoc

Each barangay team transformed humble, locally sourced ingredients into nutritious, innovative feast dishes designed to nourish families with a shared commitment to combat malnutrition across the island.

As the celebrations concluded, the event proved to be more than just a contest—it was a powerful reminder of what Limasawa can achieve through unity, active governance, and a shared dedication to building a healthier, more resilient community.
