PNP SWIFT ACTION LEADS TO ARREST OF FIVE IN MAKATI SAFE SPACES ACT CASE
The Philippine National Police (PNP) lauded the immediate response of police personnel that resulted in the arrest of five individuals allegedly involved in a violation of the Safe Spaces Act against a foreign tourist in Makati City on June 7.
According to reports, the victim, a 23-year-old Colombian national, sought assistance from police officers after allegedly experiencing acts of sexual harassment while walking along a street in Barangay Poblacion. Responding personnel promptly acted on the complaint, leading to the arrest of five male suspects, aged 18 to 23, shortly after the incident.
The case has been referred to the appropriate investigative and prosecutorial authorities for the filing of the corresponding charges for alleged violation of Republic Act No. 11313, or the Safe Spaces Act.
PNP Chief, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., commended the responding officers for their swift and professional action.
He likewise emphasized the importance of encouraging victims and witnesses to immediately report incidents of harassment and other crimes to authorities.
The PNP said the accomplishment reflects its continuing efforts under the PNP Focused Agenda through enhanced police operations and community-oriented policing strategies aimed at ensuring safer public spaces. It also supports the broader vision of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to strengthen public safety, security, and the countryโs reputation as a welcoming destination for both citizens and visitors.
The PNP remains committed to providing responsive law enforcement services and ensuring that public spaces remain safe and respectful for everyone, in line with the Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.
