Dr. Jill Villanueva emphasized the potential of cassava as a sustainable alternative livelihood for farmers—strengthening food security and increasing community income, particularly through value-added processing.

“Ang cassava usa ka alternatibong panginabuhian alang sa mga mag-uuma nga adunay dako nga potensyal sa pagpalambo sa seguridad sa pagkaon ug pagpausbaw sa kita sa komunidad, ilabi na kung kini maproseso ngadto sa nagkalain-laing mga produkto,” she stated during the Training on Indigenous Crop and Fish Cultivation Management and Value Addition held in Brgy. Ugalingan, Carmen, Cotabato on March 23, 2026.

Strengthening grassroots development through science and community engagement, the Cotabato Foundation College of Science and Technology (CFCST) successfully conducted a two-day Training Program on Indigenous Crop and Fish Cultivation Management and Value Addition on March 23–24, 2026, across five of its adopted barangays in North Cotabato.

The initiative, implemented under the MINSUPALA Project led by Dr. Onofre S. Corpuz, gathered farmers, fisherfolk, and local stakeholders from Brgy. Ugalingan, Brgy. Manili in Municipality of Carmen; Brgy. Lebpas, Brgy. Matalam in Municipality of Arakan; and Brgy. Kisupaan in the Municipality of President Roxas for an intensive capacity-building activity focused on sustainable livelihood development.

Participants were equipped with practical and science-based techniques in indigenous crop production, fish cultivation management, and value-adding processes, aimed at improving productivity, enhancing food security, and increasing income opportunities at the community level.

CFCST experts facilitated a series of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on training sessions, highlighting the importance of integrating traditional knowledge with innovative agricultural practices. The program emphasized environmentally sound methods and efficient resource management to support long-term resilience among rural communities.

Romblon State University, through its Research and Development (R&D) Unit, officially opens the Call for R&D Proposals for 2027 Funding.

We invite our dedicated faculty researchers to transform innovative ideas into impactful projects that respond to the needs of our communities and contribute to national and global development. All submitted proposals, together with completed RDI projects, will be presented during the In-House Review on May 28–29, 2026.

Proposed projects must align with the University’s research agenda in the areas of Coconut, Fisheries (Seaweeds), Smart Agriculture, Marble, Environment, and discipline-specific research proposals. Priority funding will be given to proposals anchored in the following established R&D Centers:
• Sentro ng Wika at Kultura (SWK)
• Center for Community Research, Advancement, and Development in Learning and Education (CRADLE)
• Center for Ecological Agroecosystems for Resilient Technologies and Holistic Sustainability (Center of EARTH)
