It always seemed impossible until its done - Nelson Mandela

Indeed, Care without Barriers was something that the company of people, behind every post, expected to have become. It was a memorable experience for the past month. What a ride!

We would like to thank everyone who had poured all their time and effort for this advocacy and while we stop our journey here, we still push everyone to speak their truths and use their voices to break barriers and stigma that divides us from each other.

Always remember, โ€œWhen the world is silent, even one voice becomes powerfulโ€ - Malala Yousafzai

No matter how everyone becomes mum about HIV/AIDS, doesnโ€™t mean you need to be as well, and we hope that for the past month, Care without Barriers has been that space for your voices to be heard.

Despite the end of this chapter each and one of us will continue to spread the message, in our own ways and always with the love for everyoneโ€ฆ A love strong enough to break any barriers.

This has been Care Without Barriers, signing off.

Thank you so much!

Hear ye! ๐Ÿ“ฃ

As part of Care without Barriers principles of bringing science to people to promote better health literacy, we came back from the lab to share the chemistry ๐Ÿงช of HIV/AIDS.

Ever wondered how viruses ๐Ÿฆ  enter, infect, and spread into our body? We hope that this post will help us understand what happens inside our bodies!

The foundation of empowerment is knowledge๐Ÿ’ก, let us learn and grow together, without barriers!

We fight ๐Ÿ’ช against the stigma with the power of information and love, and closely working hand-in-hand with our experts๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš•๏ธ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš•๏ธ!

Health information and healthcare is a partnership between doctors and the patients. As a first step of destigmatizing HIV-AIDS, being informed can go a long way โ€ผ๏ธ

Through our interview with Dr. Deano Reyes,๐Ÿฉบ the Medical Director of Hara Holistic Gender and Sexual Health Clinic, we get to see the perspective of experts when it comes to topics of Reproductive Health, particularly on HIV-AIDS.

Let us learn ๐Ÿ“ together with the right resources to go towards the right path of embracing ๐Ÿซ‚ each other with love and Care without Barriers๐Ÿ’•

'HIV DOES NOT HURT ME, STIGMA DOES' ๐Ÿค

On Good Friday, a person garbed in white from head to toe walks under the heat of the sun in Castillejos, Zambales, sending a message that it is stigma that brings down people with HIV (human immunodeficiency virus), not the virus itself.

"I have HIV. But it doesn't hurt me. Stigma does!" read the placard they hold. | via Denise Fajardo-Austria via GMA Regional TV News

People living with HIV, tested early on, can get and keep an undetectable viral load by taking HIV medicine (called antiretroviral therapy or ART), given for free by the Department of Health.

Scientific consensus holds that having an undetectable viral load means you will not anymore transmit HIV to other people.

Most people who get treatment soon after their diagnosis and stay on it can live long, healthy lives, and expect to live as long as someone without HIV, according to the World Health Organization.

The first step ๐Ÿ‘ฃto better health is awarenessโ€ผ๏ธ

In our society today, talking about sexual health is already taboo, and it no longer comes as a surprise that there is an even greater stigma against those with HIV. However, awareness through proper sources of information is the first step to demystification and destigmatization.

HIV diagnosis is not only for our own safety thoughโ€”it is also for those around us. Luckily for us, there are numerous facilities within our reach to aid in this awareness, while respecting our privacy and safety. Want to find out more? See our post below!

There is no clear symptom for HIV. It is always better to get tested!

Now, let's face the facts: HIV is spread through specific bodily fluids involving sexual or non-sexual contact or from mother to child during pregnancy.

However, not all risks are obvious, as the acute infection begins as flu-like symptoms, while chronic infection may appear asymptomatic before evolving into AIDS.

Understanding who is most vulnerable and how transmission can be prevented helps stop fear from spreading faster than facts.

Donโ€™t let myths do the talking ๐Ÿ’ช

Misinformation about HIV continues to fuel stigmaโ€”but knowledge can change that. Understanding how HIV is (and isnโ€™t) transmitted helps protect ourselves and our loved ones while breaking the stigma that surrounds it.

With rising cases in the Philippines, especially among younger generations, accurate information is more important than ever. Because being informed isnโ€™t just smartโ€”it saves lives. โ™ฅ๏ธ

Know the facts. Share the truth. Stop the stigma. Let us create a community that spreads awareness and careโ€”without barriers.
