We are thrilled to welcome our second batch of students 🎓 This time from USTP-Claveria College of Agriculture, 4th year

Over the next 600 hours, they will be completing their internship and becoming a part of our daily farm life at Bata-Alima. During this time, they will gain experience in:
☕️ The full coffee production process
♻️ Making organic fertilizer sprays & compost
🌱 the whole process from raising seedlings, preparing beds, to planting and nurturing healthy growth

Throwback to our belated Christmas celebration last Saturday! 🎄 All kids from the children’s home (Philippine Island Kids) visited Bata-Alima: One day on the farm just playing, relaxing, singing and enjoying a delicious BBQ 🍖 The day ended with an exciting Amazing Race and a gift for everyone to take home 🎁

🌿 A update from Bata Alima 🌿

🔨 The fertilizer production house is finished! And we started testing the „Berkeley Method“ - a hot compost method that turns organic waste into compost within 30 days.

🫛 Twice a week we deliver lots of veggies to the kids’ shelter (Pikifi) in the city. The organic fertilizer sprays are proving very effective – the plants are growing big and healthy!

🛻 We bought a vehicle for Bata-Alima! This is a big help for delivering the vegetables and bringing construction materials to the farm

💧 The new water tanks arrived last week and are ready to be connected

🧘 On weekends we love to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere on the farm or going on little trips to explore the beautiful surroundings

🙌 A big thanks goes to our employees.

🌱 Our new veggie garden is doing great 🌱

Bitter melon, string beans, opo, okra, pumpkin and winged beans 🫛🥒 We are harvesting twice a week and deliver the vegetables to the children‘s home in the city. Our organic sprays are working better than expected 🤗

Next steps:
- expand the fertilizer production house
- experiment with hot composting (Berkeley method) to produce compost in 18 days
- build a water pump system

🎉🎅🏼 And soon there will be a belated christmas day event on Bata-Alima for the kids, with gift giving and barbecue. We are excited to share pictures and videos with you soon!

Impressions from the last few months 🌿 Here is a quick update on what we’ve been working on and what’s new:

🐮 Our cow gave birth to a healthy calf ☕ Coffee Season: From October to February we Harvest our coffee beans every Saturday – the beans are now even drying in our new drying hut 🌱 We are regularly producing our own natural fertilizer 🛠️ We are currently finishing the last details on the houses 🫛 The new garden with beans, pumpkin, and okra is thriving – we are already able to deliver 20-30kg of fresh vegetables to the children's home in the city every week 🔥 We are now producing our own biochar

🥳🥳 Yesterday, we celebrated the last day of our student interns at Bata-Alima. We hope you learned a lot and enjoyed the experience here in the community. This week, we put into practice what we learned during the workshop at Binahon Agroforestry Farm 🎓 Together with the students we produced organic fertilizer and natural plant spray - using only natural materials. The process involves mixing natural ingredients like fish, fruits, leaves, herbs etc. with molasses. After about 7 days of fermentation, the mixture is ready to use.

It enhances plant growth and health and helps to control pests. Some can even be used for livestock 🐓🐖 - providing protein, boost their immune system and reduce unpleasant odors.

We produced:
- 🍌 Fermented Fruit Juice (FFJ) with banana
- 🌿 Fermented Plant Juice (FPJ) with sweet potatoe leaves
- 🐟 Fish Amino Acid (FAA)
- 🧄 Oriental Herbal Nutrient (OHN) with ginger and garlic
