THINGS I REALIZED AFTER LOSING A SIX-FIGURE/MONTH PART-TIME LONG TERM CLIENT (so you can prepare before it happens to you!)
1. your emergency fund is not optional
- trust me when i say itās not just adulting advice. itās peace of mind when income suddenly changes.
2. donāt let your lifestyle inflate too fast
-when your income grows, itās tempting to make everything bigger! nicer things, more bills, more āi deserve thisā purchases. but in freelancing, income can change quickly, so itās smarter to upgrade slowly and keep your expenses easy to carry.
3. AI is not something to ignore
- most of my tasks were creatives: videos, graphics, captions, ideas, and repurposing. which AI is getting better at! š®āšØ so strategy really matters more than ever.
4. donāt get too comfortable
-keep improving your offer, updating your portfolio, and showing up online (i landed another client in less than a week because of this!) šš»
5. controlled expenses soften the fall
-the real flex is not just earning more, but not being trapped by a lifestyle you canāt maintain.
6. always have a backup client
-managing multiple clients is definitely not an easy thing to do but it saves you from panicking when one client suddenly leaves.
7. losing a client is not the end
-it hurts yes! sounds cliche but it forces you to rebuild smarter, not just work harder.
