Agony Hill
Sometime in November, 1966 the Cursillistas of Alimodian (Catholic men who joined the Cursillo Movement for spiritual renewal) conceived and initiated the idea of turning Igcaras Hill into the perfect setting for people to re-enact the passion of Jesus Christ by the Way of the Cross (Via Cruses). They were also, mostly members of the Knights of Columbus, with Paking Balolot as their Grand Knight.
On February 19, 1967, some 50 men aided by carabaos put up a giant cross at “Toro-toro tiyoy”, the highest point of the hill. It was hewn out of a Bayoko tree taken down below. Through the benevolence of some individuals and their families, grottos were erected on each designated station and a chapel at the end , courtesy of Tagoy Anam.
At 3:30 P.M. of Mat 3 1967, then Auxilliary Bishop most Rev. Jaime L. Sin Blessed and inaugurated the Agony Hill.
Sometimes later Pio Alejan¬¬, on his own patiently arranged white stones at the side of the hill, below the cross that read – “Ang Pag-antos.” The original cross now gone, 3 concrete white crosses were made possible by Beatriz Dalipe ang Sofia Dalipe Ong. Never forgotten in the realization of the project is then Rev. Father Nicholas Caberoy, Assistant parish priest who sincere devotion, time efforts and leadership made these possible with the spiritual words that guided him. “Ang Pag-antos Timaan Sang Paghigugma.”
