On July 24, 2026, the Municipality of Hinundayan, through the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC), in coordination with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), successfully conducted the BDRRMC Rescue Booth Static Display Competition and Mini Rescue Games Relay Challenge as part of the celebration of the 38th National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) 2026 and the 117th Founding Anniversary of the Municipality of Hinundayan.

With the theme:

β€œNaghahanda at Kumikilos Tungo sa Panatag na Bagong Pilipinas.”

The activity brought together the 17 Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committees (BDRRMCs) in a meaningful showcase of preparedness, teamwork, technical skills, operational readiness, and commitment to saving lives.

The activity provided an opportunity for every barangay to demonstrate not only what equipment they have, but more importantly, their readiness to use these resources when emergencies and disasters strike.

LGU HINUNDAYAN SUCCESSFULLY PASSES THE RLGC ASSESSMENT

The Local Government Unit of Hinundayan successfully completed and PASSED the Regional Local Governance Champion (RLGC) Assessment, marking another milestone in our continuing commitment to effective governance, quality public service, and resilient communities.

This achievement is a result of the collective efforts of our Municipal Officials, Department Heads, employees, partner agencies, stakeholders, and barangays who worked together to meet the standards and requirements of the assessment.

DISASTER PREPAREDNESS CORE AREA

A special acknowledgment goes to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC), MDRRMO, Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committees (BDRRMCs), HERO – Hinundayan Emergency Response Operatives, and all our disaster risk reduction and management partners.

Our preparedness efforts in Early Warning Systems, evacuation management, disaster preparedness and response mechanisms, preparedness resources, drills and exercises, and community-based DRRM demonstrate our continuing commitment to protecting lives and building a safer and more resilient Hinundayan.

The Municipality of Hinundayan officially commenced the observance of National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) 2026 through its Kick-Off Celebration, anchored on this year’s theme, β€œNaghahanda at Kumikilos Tungo sa Panatag na Bagong Pilipinas.”

The activity began with the registration and assembly of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) Members, followed by a Disaster Resilience Advocacy Motorcade around the municipality, signifying the community’s collective commitment to building a safer, adaptive, and disaster-resilient Hinundayan.

The formal program was hosted by Mr. Ruel Estrada, Municipal Tourism Designate, who served as the Master of Ceremonies. The ceremony commenced with an Invocation through an Audio-Visual Presentation (AVP), followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, Southern Leyte Hymn, and Hinundayan Hymn.

A Welcome Message was delivered by Kathleen Ponce V. Cocharo, RN, MM, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer, emphasizing the importance of preparedness, collaboration, and resilience in safeguarding lives and communities.

The activity was graced by Hon. Evelyn T. Lee, CPA, Municipal Mayor and Chairperson of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC), who delivered her Message of Support, reaffirming the Local Government Unit’s unwavering commitment to disaster risk reduction and resilient development. Hon. Elisa Dela Cruz Cadingan, Municipal Vice Mayor and Vice-Chairperson of the MDRRMC, is likewise acknowledged for her continued support of the municipality’s disaster resilience initiatives. Also present was Hon. Lerma G. Lagumbay, Chairperson of the Sangguniang Bayan Committee on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management.

The Ceremonial Pledge of Commitment to Disaster Resilience was led by Gloryen J. Cabello, LDRRMO II, symbolizing the shared dedication of the MDRRMC and all stakeholders to fostering a culture of preparedness and resilience.

The program continued with informative learning sessions on the Four Thematic Areas of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management:

πŸ”Ή Disaster Rehabilitation and Recovery – β€œBuilding Back Better: Community Recovery and Sustainable Rehabilitation After Disasters,” presented by Ma. Bella J. Gilbuena, Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator (MPDC).

The activity also featured the Ceremonial Distribution of National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) 2026 Advocacy Tarpaulins to the Seventeen (17) Barangays, led by Hon. Evelyn T. Lee, CPA, together with Hon. Julieta A. Dakila, President of the Liga ng mga Barangay, Hon. Lerma G. Lagumbay, Chairperson of the SB Committee on DRRM, the Honorable Members of the Sangguniang Bayan, and Ms. Kathleen Ponce V. Cocharo, RN, MM, MDRRMO. A Message of Commitment on behalf of the 17 Barangays was delivered by Hon. Julieta A. Dakila. Hon. Elisa Dela Cruz Cadingan, Municipal Vice Mayor and Vice-Chairperson of the MDRRMC, is likewise acknowledged for her continued support of the municipality’s disaster resilience programs.

To further strengthen the municipality’s emergency response capability, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) formally turned over one (1) unit Chainsaw to the Hinundayan Municipal Police Station (MPS). The ceremonial turnover was led by Hon. Evelyn T. Lee, CPA, together with Hon. Lerma G. Lagumbay, the Honorable Members of the Sangguniang Bayan, and Ms. Kathleen Ponce V. Cocharo, RN, MM, MDRRMO. The equipment was formally received by Mr. Renato Cascayan on behalf of the Hinundayan Municipal Police Station (MPS).

The celebration concluded with a Photo Opportunity, the Distribution of Snacks by the MDRRMO Secretariat, and a Closing Message delivered by Hon. Lerma G. Lagumbay, Chairperson of the Sangguniang Bayan Committee on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, officially launching the Municipality of Hinundayan’s month-long observance of National Disaster Resilience Month 2026.

The Municipality of Hinundayan proudly welcomed and supported the Tour de Southern Leyte Cycling Competition 2026, held on June 12–14, 2026, as part of the celebration of the 66th Founding Anniversary of the Province of Southern Leyte.

Under the leadership of Hon. Evelyn T. Lee, CPA, Municipal Mayor and Chairperson of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC), with the full support of Hon. Elisa Dela Cruz Cadibgan, Municipal Vice Mayor, the Sangguniang Bayan, particularly Hon. Lerma G. Lagumbay, Chairperson on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, the Municipality ensured the safe, orderly, and successful conduct of this prestigious sporting event.

The event was made possible through the collective efforts and strong collaboration of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC), Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), Hinundayan Emergency Response Operatives (HERO), Municipal Tourism Office, Hinundayan Primary Care Facility (RHU), Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committees (BDRRMCs), Community Anti-Crime Group (CACG), traffic marshals, volunteers, and the entire Hinundayanon community.

This successful event reflected not only the spirit of sportsmanship but also the Municipality’s unwavering commitment to public safety, disaster preparedness, and inter-agency collaboration. Through unity, discipline, and teamwork, the safety and well-being of cyclists, spectators, and motorists were effectively ensured throughout the competition.

SUCCESSFUL CONDUCT OF THE 2ND QUARTER NATIONWIDE SIMULTANEOUS EARTHQUAKE DRILL (NSED)

The Municipality of Hinundayan successfully conducted the 2nd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on June 18, 2026, reaffirming its commitment to disaster preparedness, resilience, and the safety of government employees and stakeholders.

During the drill, all personnel actively demonstrated the standard earthquake response procedures, including β€œDuck, Cover, and Hold,” orderly evacuation, and assembly at the designated evacuation area. Employees also wore their hard hats and carried their Go Bags, emphasizing the importance of being prepared and equipped during emergencies.

The exercise reinforced a culture of preparedness by highlighting the value of personal readiness and coordinated emergency response. It also provided an opportunity to assess existing emergency protocols, strengthen inter-office coordination, and enhance awareness of earthquake safety measures.

Preparedness is a shared responsibility, and activities like the NSED help ensure that our community is ready to respond effectively when disasters strike.
