DREES Holds GAD Symposium on VAWC, Safe Spaces, and Anti-Bullying
In line with the celebration of 2026 National Women’s Month, Don Rosalio Eduarte Elementary School under the leadership of Maam Dahl Silvania , Principal IV, conducted a Gender and Development (GAD) Symposium focusing on Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC)- RA 9262, the Safe Spaces Act - RA 11313, and Anti-Bullying - 10627.
The activity aimed to raise awareness among learners, teachers, and school personnel on the importance of promoting a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment. It also emphasized the roles and responsibilities of individuals in preventing abuse, harassment, and bullying in both school and community settings.
PMSg Glenda Jimenez of the Dolores Municipal Police Station served as the resource speaker. She delivered an informative discussion on the different forms of violence covered under the VAWC law, highlighting the importance of reporting incidents and protecting victims’ rights. She also explained the provisions of the Safe Spaces Act, reminding participants that harassment in public spaces, online platforms, and within institutions is punishable by law.
Furthermore, PMSg Jimenez discussed the Anti-Bullying Act, stressing the need for early intervention and the active involvement of teachers, parents, and learners in creating a bully-free environment. She encouraged students to speak up and seek help when faced with any form of abuse or intimidation.
The symposium served as a valuable platform in strengthening the school’s commitment to uphold gender equality, child protection, and safe spaces for all. As part of the National Women’s Month Celebration, the activity reinforced the importance of empowering individuals through knowledge and awareness to build a more just and compassionate community.
