Bridging Shores and Classrooms: An Educational Visit to Bantayan Island
The College of Education of Cebu Technological University (CTU) – Daanbantayan Campus conducted a two-day observation visit to Bantayan Island on March 10–11, 2026 , covering the municipalities of Bantayan, Madridejos, and Santa Fe. The activity was part of the Student Teachers’ Observation Program, aimed at strengthening future educators through real-world classroom exposure.
The delegation included student teachers and faculty members led by the Assistant Campus Director, Dean of Instruction Prof. Felixberto T. Lucabon Jr., OJT Chair Sir Braulio M. Diongson, core instructors, Dr. Nikkithea L.Beduya, and the ICPA Head. They were joined by the Campus Director of CTU Bantayan Extension, Prof. Gerlie Fariola, whose presence further strengthened collaboration and support throughout the visit.
Each municipality offered distinct learning environments. Bantayan highlighted strong community involvement in education, Madridejos demonstrated the resilience of coastal schools, and Santa Fe showcased modern teaching practices. These experiences allowed student teachers to observe diverse instructional strategies and classroom dynamics.
A key highlight of the visit was the trip to Hilantagaan Island and Hilantagaan National High School. Despite its remote location, the school exemplified dedication and resourcefulness in delivering quality education. The experience provided valuable insights into the challenges and realities faced by educators in isolated communities.
The visit successfully bridged theory and practice, enabling student teachers to observe teaching methods, engage with educators, and reflect on their future roles. More importantly, it fostered essential values such as adaptability, cultural awareness, and commitment.
The College of Education extends its sincere gratitude to the mentors, cooperating teachers, and school principals, as well as to Prof. Gerlie Fariola, for their warm welcome and invaluable support. Their guidance and collaboration greatly enriched the learning experience of the student teachers.
Overall, the Bantayan Island visit was both an academic requirement and a transformative experience, reinforcing CTU’s mission to develop competent, compassionate, and globally responsive educators.
