๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ก๐ข๐๐ ๐๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ง. ๐๐๐๐ข๐๐๐ซ ๐๐๐ซ๐ ๐ข๐จ ๐. ๐๐๐ฏ๐ ๐๐ซ. opened the program with enthusiasm and challenged everyone to advocate the Deaf and their communities.
Guest Speaker ๐๐ฌ. ๐๐ ๐๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐จ๐ฒ ๐๐๐ ๐-๐๐๐๐๐ฆ๐๐ซ๐, and the๐๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐ข๐๐๐ง๐ญ ๐จ๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐๐ฏ๐๐จ ๐๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐จ๐๐ข๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง, ignited the conversation with a powerful breakdown of ๐๐๐ฉ๐ฎ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ ๐๐๐ญ ๐๐๐๐๐, a law mandating Filipino Sign Language (FSL) as the primary language for Deaf Filipinos in public services. โImagine sitting in a hospital, unable to explain your pain or understand your diagnosis,โ Lacambre shared, her hands weaving vivid FSL examples like โemergency,โ โmedicine,โ and โconsent.โ Her workshop turned attendees into active learners, as nurses and staff practiced phrases critical to patient care.
๐๐ซ. ๐๐ข๐ญ๐ญ๐ข ๐๐จ๐ซ๐๐ก ๐๐๐ง๐๐, a 2nd year resident Doctor of CRMCโs Family Medicine Department and the Advocate doctor of the CARES clinic, announced tangible steps toward equity: weekly FSL training for PACD staff, visual alert systems in waiting areas, and partnerships with interpreters. โCommunication isnโt a privilegeโitโs a right,โ she emphasized, drawing applause. Deaf attendees like 22-year-old ๐๐ฆ๐๐ซ ๐. ๐๐๐ญ๐ฎ ๐๐ฅ๐จ๐ง, who once experienced the CARES clinic for the Deaf, felt seen. โToday,โ he signed with a smile, โI know CRMC is fighting for us.โ
The event buzzed with collaborative energy. Local Deaf organizations tabled resources, while parents swapped stories of navigating healthcare barriers. ๐๐ฏ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ฉ๐, a parent and a participant who attended the FSL demo, admitted, โI never realized how isolating a hospital feels without interpreters. Now, Iโm committed to learning.โ
As the celebration closed, ๐๐ซ. ๐๐ก๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ซ๐จ-๐๐จ๐ฌ๐๐, CRMC-FAMMED Chairperson, reaffirmed CRMCโs pledge: โThis isnโt a one-time event. Itโs the foundation of a healthcare system where no one is left unheard.โ
CRMCโs Deaf Awareness Week didnโt just break the silenceโit amplified voices long overlooked, proving that inclusivity isnโt a checkbox, but a lifeline. As ๐๐ฌ. ๐๐๐๐๐ฆ๐๐ซ๐ poignantly stated, โWhen hospitals speak our language, they heal more than bodies. CRMC truly they heal.
