LGU CORTES KICKS OFF CIVIL SERVICE MONTH 2026 CELEBRATION

The Local Government Unit of Cortes officially kicked off its Civil Service Month 2026 celebration on September 7, 2026, led by Municipal Mayor Hon. Frederick P. Yu and Vice Mayor Hon. Cherry B. Daraman, together with SB Member Hon. Lydia I. Gabisay, SB Member Hon. Joven P. Rivera, and ABC President Hon. Julieta Arligue.

A significant part of the celebration was the Renewal of the Oath of Office and Signing of the Pledge of Commitment by the civil servants of LGU Cortes, reaffirming their dedication to uphold integrity, accountability, professionalism, and excellence in public service.

Adding excitement to the kick-off was the introduction and sashing of the candidates for Ms. PCSA 2026, giving the celebration a festive highlight while showcasing the confidence, grace, and camaraderie of the LGU workforce.

The activity was organized by the Human Resource Management Office (HRMO), headed by Mr. Martin C. Esmeralda, as part of the municipalityโ€™s celebration of Civil Service Month 2026.

As LGU Cortes joins the nationwide celebration of Civil Service Month, its workforce renews its commitment to responsive, ethical, and people-centered governance.

UPDATING OF TOURISM MASTER PLAN

The Municipality of Cortes successfully conducted the Updating of its Tourism Master Plan on September 3โ€“4, 2026 at SandScape Resort, Cagwait, Surigao del Sur, bringing together the Cortes Tourism Council and various tourism stakeholders.

The two-day workshop provided an avenue for stakeholders to openly discuss and identify the existing issues, concerns, gaps, and challenges confronting the tourism industry of Cortes. More importantly, the participants worked together in developing appropriate Programs, Projects, and Activities (PPAs) designed to address these concerns and guide the municipalityโ€™s tourism development in the coming years.

Through collaborative planning, the identified PPAs were organized according to target timelines and yearly priorities, providing a clear direction for the municipality to progressively address its tourism needs and work toward a more sustainable, organized, and competitive tourism industry.

The activity was facilitated by Mr. Charlie Mejorada, OIC-MPDO, whose guidance helped lead the stakeholders through the planning and identification of priority interventions.

The successful conduct of the activity was made possible through the support of Municipal Mayor Hon. Frederick P. Yu, whose administration continues to support initiatives geared toward strengthening and sustaining tourism development in Cortes.๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŒฟ

Another meaningful and productive day of learning and strengthening our capacity in the Management of the Dead and Missing (MDM) Training held in Butuan City.

Todayโ€™s session highlights the importance of proper, dignified, and systematic management of the dead and missing during emergencies and disasters.

A special moment of appreciation was given to our dedicated Resource Speaker through the presentation of a Certificate of Appreciation, together with our Municipal Mayor, Hon. Frederick P. Yu, in recognition of the speakerโ€™s valuable knowledge, expertise, and commitment in sharing important lessons with our participants.

The Local Government Unit of Cortes, Surigao del Sur, through the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), actively participated in the Training on the Management of the Dead and Missing (MDM).

The training aims to strengthen the knowledge, skills, coordination, and preparedness of MDRRMO personnel and partner agencies in effectively managing cases involving the deceased and missing persons, particularly during disasters, emergencies, and other critical incidents.

๐Ÿค Through collaborative learning and inter-agency coordination, participants gained valuable insights on proper procedures, documentation, identification, recovery, handling, and management of the dead and missing, while ensuring dignity, compassion, and respect for affected individuals and their families.

This initiative highlights the commitment of LGU Cortes to building a more prepared, responsive, coordinated, and resilient community.

The Office of the Municipal Vice Mayor, serving as Acting Mayor, welcomed Dr. Jeannette G. Quinto, PhD, during her courtesy call as the newly designated District Supervisor (PSDS) of the district.

The occasion also marked the formal turnover and assumption of responsibilities of the new PSDS, represented by Dr. Marilyn V. Quinto, PhD.
