The Visayas Grid was placed under Yellow Alert from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on September 23, 2026, based on the latest grid status update.
The grid recorded an available capacity of 2,607 megawatts (MW) against a peak demand of 2,418 MW during the alert period. The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said the Yellow Alert was attributed in part to the unavailability of the Visayas' large coal-fired power plants, namely TVI 1, PEDC 3, and KSPC 2.
As of the 8 a.m. update, 12 power plants were on forced outage, while 16 plants were operating at derated capacities, resulting in a total of 886.5 MW of capacity unavailable to the grid. Of the plants on forced outage, three have been unavailable since August 2026, two since June, six since May, while others have been on outage since 2025, 2024, 2023, and 2021.
A Yellow Alert is declared when the operating margin of the power system is insufficient to meet the transmission grid's required contingency reserve.
Consumers are encouraged to continue observing energy conservation measures, particularly during peak demand hours.
