The City Government of Catbalogan led by City Mayor Dexter Uy has firmly established itself as one of the most competitive cities not only in the Eastern Visayas. In the recent Cities and Municipalities Competitive Index (CMCI) conducted by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Catbalogan ranked fourth among the seven cities in the Eastern Visayas Region. Additionally, it ranked 9th out of 33 component cities across the entire Visayas, reflecting its growing stature in the region.

The CMCI rankings are determined based on a comprehensive evaluation of each city's performance across five key pillars: Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency, Infrastructure, Resiliency, and Innovation. Catbalogan City has consistently excelled, particularly in Government Efficiency, which remains one of its strongest attributes.

This achievement follows last year’s recognition, where Catbalogan City was honored as the 2nd Most Improved Component City in the entire Philippines. The city's upward trajectory is a proof to the strategic initiatives and reforms implemented under the city’s administration. Central to this progress is Mayor Dexter Uy's Development Agenda, a comprehensive plan that prioritizes the improvement of economic activities and the promotion of local industries.

The city’s strong performance in the CMCI not only highlights its competitive edge but also strengthens its commitment to sustainable development and inclusive growth. As Catbalogan continues to rise in the rankings, it demonstrates that with a visionary leadership and a clear development agenda, significant progress is possible.
