Kagay-anons Demand Justice and Accountability!

As our country has been plagued by systemic corruption, day by day β€” corruption has stolen lives, futures and our democracy. As Kagay-anons, we demand transparency, justice and accountability β€” from national to local levels. The recent exposΓ© of the unfinished Mega Health Building at Sittio Macanhan amounting to Php65 million worth of public funds has left us in question, where did our taxes go? The project started in March 2023 and was supposed to be finished in January 2025 β€” but above all else, this must spark our collective discontent to build stronger and sustained collective actions toward addressing systemic issues of national to local corruption.

We invite all Kagay-anons from all sectors and faith to join us tomorrow for an Interfaith Prayer at 4:30PM at Mega Health Center Building.

It is true, indeed, that only through militant struggle can the best in the youth emerge. Their talent and intelligence were shown in the recent protests against corruption and fascism, their defiant cry against tyranny heeded to the streets and burned a massive torch for the liberation of their own country against the hands of imperialist-backed tyrants and contractors.

From September 21 to October 17, over a hundred thousand people mobilized for the betterment of their nation, for the cry to end corruption and fascism, for the end to imprison the corrupt politicians who keep our nation impoverished in order to serve the greed of their foreign masters.

That is why, on November 13, Youth Act Now against Tyranny - Cagayan de Oro alongside Kabataan Partylist - Northern Mindanao is moving to host a meeting with all youth organizations and individuals standing up for democracy to discuss our next moves in these turbulent times.

Rain or shine ang pasismo ng estado! Imbes na ikulong ang mga kurakot, walang humpay ang atake ni Marcos Jr. sa kabataan at mamamayang Pilipino!

Ngayong araw, Nobyembre 5, 2025, ganap na 7:06 am hanggang 7:47 am, si Neil Velez ay binuntutan at hinarass ng hinihinalang pwersa ng estado na nakamotor. Si Neil ay ang regional coordinator ng Kabataan Partylist Northern Mindanao. Siya ay isang lider-estudyante ng Xavier University, Cagayan de Oro City, kumukuha ng BS Education major in English, at aktibong nakikibaka para sa alternatibong pulitika. Mula sa elektoral na pakikibaka hanggang sa mga pambansang kampanya para sa karapatan at kagalingan ng kabataan at ng mamamayang Pilipino. Sa kaniyang mga kasama at kaibigan, siya ay kilala na may malakas na pananalig at buong puso na tumutulong sa may nangangailangan. Kaya’t nakakagalit ang pagbuntot at paniniktik sa kaniya na hindi lang nag-umpisa ngayong araw.

Noong Nobyembre 3, 2025, kahit bumabagyo, ay tiniktikan rin ang magulang ni Neil ng mga pwersa ng estado mula alas-12 ng tanghali hanggang alas-3 ng hapon. Malinaw ang layunin ng mga naniniktik. Ito ay para takutin at patahimikin ang mga kabataang kritikal kabilang na si Neil. Makikita na ang paniniktik kay Neil ay hindi lang nakaapekto sa kaniyang seguridad, kundi pati na rin sa kaniyang mga magulang.

Hindi maikakailang parehong pattern ng paninindak ang ginagawa ng estado, sa mga kritikal na kabataang hinainan ng subpoena dahil lang sila ay nagprotesta laban sa kurapsyon. Sa kabila ng propaganda ng administrasyong Marcos Jr. na para kuno sya sa karapatang-pantao, ay malala pa rin ang pamamasismo ng kanyang mga kapulisan at kasundaluhan sa mamamayang Pilipino. Hanggang ngayon wala paring mga kurakot ang nakukulong, habang ang mga kabataan at mga ordinaryong mamamayan ang dinadahas at tinatakot ng PNP at AFP, kasama na ng NTF-ELCAC. Imbes na gamitin ang pondo sa paglutas ng mga problema tulad ng isyu sa edukasyon at kakulangan ng serbisyong pangtao, ito ay kinokorap ng mga politiko at ginagamit sa mga ahensiyang nagpapatahimik ng mga aktibista.

Panawagan ng Kabataan Partylist Northern Mindanao (KPL NMR) na itigil na ang paniniktik kay Neil at ng iba pang aktibista at progresibong mamamayan. Dapat din itigil ang mga confidential intellegence funds na gigamit para maniktik sa mga aktibista at gamitin ang pondong ito para sa mga serbisyong pangtao. Hinihimok ng KPL NMR ang mga kabataan at ordinaryong mamamayan na labanan ang pasismo ng estado at ni Marcos Jr.

TWO YOUTH ACTIVISTS IN CAGAYAN DE ORO, TAILED BY STATE FORCES

Two youth activists, Neil Collins Velez and Cyrus Adrian Rom were recently tailed by state forces on November 5 and November 4 respectively in Cagayan de Oro. The blatant surveillance and repression brought about them by the bureaucratic state only shows its desperation to silence activists who are fighting in the period of great social upheaval brought about by their own failures in covering up the corruption cases in their own departments.

Kabataan Partylist - Northern Mindanao vehemently stresses its strongest indignation against these cases of outright surveillance and harassment by the state. Instead of properly serving the people, billions of pesos in confidential intelligence funds are being poured into repressing youth and student activists who are standing up against imperialist exploitation and oppression by the fascist and corrupt government.

On November 4, former Anakbayan – Cebu chairperson and Kabataan Partylist – Northern Mindanao member, Cyrus Adrian was tailed by three policemen with .45 callibre handguns from 8am until 7pm, from Divisoria Street to a cafe in Corales Street.

On November 5, at 7am, Neil Collins, regional coordinator for Kabataan Partylist – Northern Mindanao, noticed a non-uniformed personnel/intelligence officer tail him through a motorcycle. The intelligence officer continued to follow him throughout his route until he arrived at his university.

This has not been the first time they had experienced surveillance. Particularly for Neil Collins, on November 3, even his mother had been subject to tailing by non-uniformed personnel.

The two youth activists are planning to report these cases of surveillance and tailing to the Commission on Human Rights – Region X.

Youth Act Now against Tyranny - Cagayan de Oro (YANAT CdO) stands vehemently with the youth and students alongside the broad masses of the people who are planning to wage and sustain their massive protests nation-wide against corruption and tyranny.

We do not forget that in 1982, Ferdinand Marcos Sr., father of the current president, signed the Education Act of 1982 into law which allowed the wanton increases of tuition fees under the context of liberalizing and deregulating education for the interests of the foreign market.

Workers who pay their taxes, PhilHealth, SSS and Pag-ibig contributions are furthermore affected due to the plunder of their funds.

We do not forget that in 2020, during Rodrigo Duterte’s time, Php15 billion was plundered and stolen by PhilHealth’s top officials at the expense of poor workers who loyally pay their contributions.

Farmers furthermore are burdened by ghost projects in their sector, their taxes and funds being poured into projects that do not meet the standard or never exist at all.

We do not forget the massacre of farmers at Kidapawan in 2016, in Lake Sebu in 2017, Sagay in 2019, the massacre of Tumandok farmers in Panay in 2020 and many more that continue to perpetrate the regime of impunity and violence in our country.

Many are affected by the flood control crisis in the country. Despite the deaths of many people at the hands of flash floods and diseases carried by them, the top officials of the government have no qualms in stealing and pocketing these funds from the people.

YANAT CdO calls on the youth and students to unite under the banner of resisting corruption and tyranny by mounting larger and more sustained actions across the city, fighting against their local problems and linking these with the broader issues of government decay in the country. We call on the young individuals and leaders of various organizations to join the alliance and banner: YOUTH ACT NOW AGAINST TYRANNY!

We stand that the power to change society rests not on the hands of the politicians who rule with an iron fist to oppress and exploit the broad masses but rather the people themselves who have the historical task of fighting against their oppressors and clamoring for a better future.
