As part of the celebration in September of the National Maritime Week, the Convenors of the information campaign against Ambulance Chasing ‘Karapatan: Sama-samang Ingatan' will conduct a symposium on September 28, 2022. The discussants of the symposium are representatives from POEA/DMW, OWWA, NCMB, NLRC, ISWAN, AMOSUP MARINA and from Licensed Manning Agencies.

The symposium will be a venue for the Filipino seafarers to be apprised of the programs, services and initiatives of maritime-related government agencies and other industry stakeholders in upholding their welfare and securing their rights.

TACLOBAN CITY - As part of the year-long celebration of its 44th Founding Anniversary and in line with the annual observance of the Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa, the National Maritime Polytechnic launches the “Makatang Marino Tiktok Challenge” which aims to promote the traditional Filipino language and at the same time allows our Filipino seafarers to showcase their creativity, talents and skills.

Marinong Pilipino! Are you ready for the NMP’s Tiktok Challenge?

Mechanics:
1) The TikTok video challenge is open to all Filipino seafarers.
2) The video should not last longer than one (1) minute and will feature the seafarer reciting an original poem in Tagalog/Filipino.
3) Use of profanities or vulgar language is not allowed in the video.
4) The TikTok challengers shall use the in posting of their video entries. It is important that the challenger’s TikTok entry privacy settings is set to public until the end of the contest.
5) Link of the TikTok video shall be sent to: [email protected] with the following format [Name:, Address:, License/Rank:, Link:]. Acceptance of entries will only be until August 31, 2022.
6) Entries will be judged using the following criteria: Content - 35%; Delivery - 30%; Audience Reactions - 20%; and Creativity / Technical Appeal of the Video - 15%
7) Winning entries will be posted on the page of the National Maritime Polytechnic on September 2, 2022.
8) Winners of the challenge will receive cash prizes (1st Prize - P 2,000.00; 2nd Prize - P 1,500.00; 3rd Prize - P 1,000.00)

It is part of the awareness campaign to encourage the country’s seafarers to seek guidance from relevant government agencies, seafarers’ unions, and non-government organizations whose mission is to provide services for seafarers’ welfare and well – being. Empowering seafarers by keeping them well-informed is seen as a proactive measure to come up with win-win solutions on matters regarding the protection of their career and employment.

The discussants of the symposium are representatives from MARINA, POEA/DMW, OWWA, NCMB, NLRC, ISWAN, AMOSUP, and from Licensed Manning Agencies.

In this regard, we invite you to submit questions that you may have relative to Seafarers Employment Contract, crew claims, repatriation, R.A. 10706 (Seafarers Protection Act), and other related concerns that you may have pertaining to employment as a seafarer.

BREAKING NEWS ❗️❗️

President Rodrigo Duterte declares Friday, 24 June 2022, a special non-working holiday in Manila, in view of the city’s celebration of its 451st Founding Anniversary (Manila Day).

With this, offices of the Maritime Industry Authority located in Manila (Central Office, and its satellite office in SM Manila) will be CLOSED for operations on FRIDAY, 24 JUNE 2022.

Hence, operations, and services being offered by the aforementioned MARINA offices will RESUME on MONDAY, 27 JUNE 2022.
