POLICE UNIFORM IS NOT A COSTUME

The police uniform is a symbol of authority earned through discipline, training, and public trust. It must never be misused.

Philippine National Police Chief PGEN JOSE MELENCIO C NARTATEZ JR. reminds the public that wearing a police uniform without authority or falsely presenting oneself as a PNP member is a criminal offense under the Revised Penal Code.

Unauthorized use of police uniforms and insignia, as well as the usurpation of official police functions, carries penalties under the law. Businesses that manufacture or distribute police uniforms without proper authorization may also face sanctions under existing regulations.

This directive reinforces a vital principle: the badge and uniform are not for personal gain or deception. They represent responsibility, accountability, and the solemn duty to protect the public.

The Internal Affairs Service (IAS) fully supports this advocacy of the Chief, PNP. As the oversight arm of the organization, IAS remains committed to ensuring that the uniform is worn only by those lawfully entrusted with it, and that violations affecting the integrity of the police service are addressed in accordance with due process.

IAS stands with the PNP in protecting the sanctity of the badge, strengthening discipline, and preserving public trust.

We encourage the public to remain vigilant and report individuals who falsely represent themselves as police officers through official PNP and IAS offices.
