The National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) Caraga Region, through its staff Generi Pinto and Ma. Felrose Asoy, participated in the monthly meeting of the FSCAP Lumbocan Chapter to provide senior citizens with valuable information of the programs, services, and initiatives of the NCSC.

The discussion covered topics including the Expanded Centenarians Act (Republic Act No. 11982), procedures for the Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) mode, the Registration and Recognition of Senior Citizens’ Organizations (SCOs), and other programs and services available for senior citizens.

This engagement forms part of the NCSC Caraga Region’s Information and Awareness Campaign, aimed at ensuring that senior citizens are well-informed, empowered, and actively involved in programs and activities that contribute to the development of their communities.

The National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) Caraga Region explored potential areas of inter-agency collaboration with the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Caraga to strengthen mechanisms for preparedness planning, assistance, and protection of senior citizens during disasters and emergencies.

The discussion highlighted the importance of ensuring that the needs of older persons are integrated into disaster risk reduction and management efforts, particularly in activities that promote their safety, protection, and welfare before, during, and after disasters.

The NCSC Caraga team was warmly welcomed by Officer-in-Charge Ms. Lorene S. Catedral and was invited to participate in the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) to further discuss possible engagements and collaborative initiatives focused on protecting the welfare of senior citizens during times of disaster.

Through inclusive disaster preparedness, the NCSC Caraga Region continues to advocate for a safer, more resilient, and age-friendly Caraga where no senior citizen is left behind in times of crisis.

The National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) Caraga Region conducted a courtesy and coordination visit with the Department of Health – Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) Caraga headed by Director Anna Marie Celina G. Garfin, MD, MM to strengthen inter-agency collaboration in advancing programs and services that promote the health, welfare, and protection of senior citizens in the region.

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss key findings from the Longitudinal Study of Ageing and Health in the Philippines (LSAHP) Wave 2 and the PIDS Silver Lining Study, which highlight emerging health concerns and gaps affecting the country’s ageing population.

The discussions further focused on critical areas such as health and long-term care, geriatric care, access to health services, and other initiatives that can better respond to the evolving needs of senior citizens.

The agencies also explored areas of collaboration for the upcoming Elderly Filipino Week Celebration, emphasizing the importance of collective action in promoting healthy ageing and recognizing the valuable contributions of older persons in our communities.

These discussions are particularly significant as the Philippines continues its transition toward an ageing society. As the number of older persons grows, the need for responsive, accessible, and sustainable health and social care systems becomes increasingly important.

In its pursuit of digitalizing the disbursement process of the Expanded Centenarians Act (ECA) Program, the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) Caraga Region conducted a courtesy visit and Technical Sharing Session with the Land Bank of the Philippines (LANDBANK) to discuss the processes involved in the electronic disbursement of cash gifts and other activities related to the efficient delivery of services to our senior citizens.

Through the electronic payment channel of the ECA Program, qualified grantees may receive their cash gifts electronically, promoting faster payment, greater convenience, and a more efficient disbursement process for senior citizens.

Electronic payment channels may include LANDBANK Piso or Savings Accounts, other banks including rural and overseas banks, existing GSIS, SSS, and PVAO pension bank accounts, Electronic Money Issuers (EMIs) such as verified GCash accounts, and Payment Service Providers (PSPs) such as Palawan Pawnshop.

The NCSC Caraga Region continues to strengthen partnerships and explore digital solutions to make government services more accessible, efficient, and senior citizen-friendly.
