62 4Ps beneficiaries in Buenavista engage in Entrepreneurial Mindsetting and Value-Adding Seminar

62 beneficiaries of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga-Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) Municipal Operations Office-Buenavista were engaged in the Seminar on Entrepreneurial Mindsetting and Value Adding of Banana and Coconut Products, an initiative by the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) Negosyo Center-Buenavista, on July 22, 2026, at Brgy. Lower Olave Gym, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte.

The seminar aimed to encourage participants to develop an entrepreneurial mindset while maximizing the potential of locally available agricultural resources.
Ms. Jowenna Quiban, Senior Business Counselor of DTI Negosyo Center Buenavista tackled Entrepreneurial Mindsetting emphasizing the importance of cultivating a growth-oriented attitude, adding skills to boost their household incomes and strengthen their livelihoods. Ms. Quiban further urged the beneficiaries to embrace the digital transition by utilizing social media networks for digital marketing. She emphasized that leveraging online platforms offers a highly accessible and convenient avenue to promote products, expand market reach, and connect directly with bulk buyers.

Meanwhile, 4Ps beneficiary Ms. Janepaul Macasling, utilized the seminar's networking platform to find a reliable buyer for her chili harvest, which yields between 60-100 kilos of chilis per harvest. In response, DTI requested her contact details to formally refer her to a local vinegar manufacturer for a potential supply partnership.

Highlighting the value of financial discipline, Lo**ta Curato, one of the participants, shared how consistent record-keeping transformed her small banana venture. She emphasized that tracking data—such as the exact volume of harvested bananas, buying rates, daily revenue, and specific transaction dates—is crucial for identifying profit margins and evaluating business setbacks, giving her a concrete baseline to guide future operations.

Ms. Mae Indoc, the assigned Municipal Link, expressed gratitude to the DTI-Negosyo Center Buenavista for extending technical assistance to the participants. She also urged the beneficiaries to fully internalize the training and apply their newfound knowledge to ensure the success of their micro-enterprises.
To demonstrate the market potential of value-added products, the seminar featured locally processed banana chips, coconut vinegar (s**a), and Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) to inspire the participants to explore similar livelihood opportunities using their own farm produce.

July 22, 2026 – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Agusan del Norte, through Negosyo Center Buenavista, in partnership with the Municipal Link of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) under the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), conducted a Seminar on Entrepreneurial Mindsetting and Value-Adding of Banana and Coconut Products for 4Ps farmer-beneficiaries at the Lower Olave Gym, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte.

The seminar aimed to encourage participants to develop an entrepreneurial mindset while maximizing the potential of locally available agricultural resources. Participants gained practical knowledge on value-adding techniques for banana and coconut products to help increase their income and strengthen their livelihoods.

As part of the activity, locally produced Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO), banana chips, and coconut vinegar (s**a) were showcased to demonstrate the market potential of value-added products and inspire participants to explore similar livelihood opportunities using their own farm produce.

Nine (9) Sustainable Livelihood Program Associations (SLPAs) from various barangays of Buenavista participated in a Supplementary Capacity Building Training conducted through the continued partnership of DTI Negosyo Center Buenavista and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP).

The training strengthened participants' knowledge and skills in Store Management, Inventory Management, Marketing Strategies, and Merchandising Management to help improve the sustainability, profitability, and overall performance of their retail livelihood enterprises.

The session was facilitated by Ms. Jowenna M. Quiban, CFMP, Senior Business Counselor, who shared practical strategies and best practices in effective retail business management.

In the afternoon, participants took part in a Business Improvement Plan (BIP) Workshop, where each SLPA presented its proposed plan for utilizing the Project Development Advancement Grant (PDAG) worth ₱200,000. The workshop served as a planning exercise to identify priority business improvements and ensure the grant is strategically allocated for enterprise development.

This activity reflects the continued commitment of DTI Negosyo Center Buenavista and DSWD-SLP to empower community enterprises, strengthen grassroots entrepreneurship, and promote sustainable MSME development.
