BORONGAN CITY, Eastern Samar โ The Loom Barangays SK Councils, composed of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Councils of Barangays Sohutan, Calicoan, Siha, San Jose, and San Gabriel, conduct the "From Clicks to Progress: Advancing Barangay Development Through Digital Governance" training on August 1 at the Barangay Calicoan Covered Court, bringing together Katipunan ng Kabataan (KK) members from the five Loom barangays and officers of the Fidel E. Anacta Sr. National High School (FEASNHS) Supreme Student Learner Government (SSLG) to strengthen digital literacy, cyber safety awareness, and mental health advocacy among the youth.
The program opens with welcome messages from Hon. Alberto A. Algo, Punong Barangay of Barangay Siha, and Hon. Marvin T. Adorna, Punong Barangay of Barangay Calicoan, who warmly welcome the participants and express their gratitude to the organizers, partner agencies, and attendees for making the digital governance training possible.
Mr. Rodel Peleno and Engr. Mark Adonis Somooc of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) facilitate the session "Project CLICK for Leaders: Digital Productivity Tools for Smart Governance," where they introduce digital productivity platforms that support efficient governance, demonstrate the features of the eGovPH application, and discuss the growing threats posed by online scams and phishing attacks, highlighting the importance of digital vigilance and the protection of personal information.
Meanwhile, PSSg Christian Godino of the Philippine National Police (PNP) leads "CyberKabataan: Navigating the Web Safely and Responsibly," discussing computer-related offenses such as hacking, identity theft, cyberstalking, and cyber harassment while reminding participants that responsible online behavior and awareness of cyber laws are essential in preventing cybercrime and creating a safer digital environment.
During the final session, Ms. Ariane Fe T. Cabiatao, RSW, presents "Kabataang Konektado: Mental Health Advocacy in the Digital Era," encouraging participants to prioritize their mental well-being, focus on personal growth, and develop a healthy relationship with technology by recognizing that their value should not be dictated by unrealistic standards often portrayed on social media.
The activity is also attended by Ms. Shayne Rizza Perla Basilga, Local Youth Development Officer, whose presence reaffirms the local government's commitment to strengthening youth development initiatives through collaborative programs that promote responsible digital citizenship and leadership.
The training concludes with the Barangay Youth Digital Pledge and the awarding of certificates to the participants, reinforcing the shared commitment of the Loom Barangays SK Councils to equipping young people with the knowledge, values, and digital competencies needed to become responsible citizens and effective community leaders in an increasingly digital society.
