"Save Our Seas: A Collaborative Effort for Oil Spill Prevention and Mitigation"

15-17 October 2024, the Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement and Response Group Southern Tagalog led by LTJG Gerna Rogena SB Sondia PCG, spearheaded the conduct of the Oil Spill Awareness and Emergency Response Training (OSAERT) to the members of emergency response team of the South Luzon Thermal Energy Corporation (SLTEC) held at SLTEC, Calaca, Batangas.

This will provide them with the essential knowledge and skills in oil handling, spill prevention, containment, and recovery to ensure an effective and efficient response to an oil spill incident.

Oil spill awareness and emergency response training are critical for effective stakeholder collaboration. By involving local communities, government agencies, and companies we can improve readiness and ensure a coordinated response to oil spills. We can share knowledge, resources, and best practices to protect the environment and public safety.

π‹πŽπŽπŠ: In celebration of National Maritime Week 2024, the Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog (CGDSTL) successfully carried out a series of eco-friendly activities at Lawas Seaside, Barangay Olo-Olo, Lobo, Batangas, on 27 September 2024.
The initiative was carried out in collaboration with 511th PCGA Squadron and Soroptomist International Batangas Downtown, and was attended by the Municipal Police Station Lobo, along with barangay officials and residents of Barangay Lobo.
These initiatives focused on maritime conservation and environmental sustainability which included the Scubasurero operation (a specialized underwater clean-up effort), and installation of artificial coral reefs.
The installed artificial reefs are designed to replicate natural marine habitats, fostering coral growth and providing safe habitat for various fish species. This project aims to rehabilitate damaged coral areas, enhance fish populations, and promote eco-tourism in the region.
This collaborative effort highlights the growing recognition of the importance of protecting and restoring marine habitats for the benefit of both the environment and coastal communities.
Together, we can build and restore a sustainable marine environment for future generations.
