SOUTH COTABATO| August 31– The PDRRMO-South Cotabato is preparing the province for the possible effects of the El Niño Phenomenon, as the province remains under what is currently called an El Niño Alert.

PDRRMO Rolly Doane C. Aquino, RN, MPA,MMNSA, MMCMDR, MMPHA, said the province is being prepared should the prevailing conditions continue to intensify and result in greater impacts on South Cotabato.

“𝘎𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘢 𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘺 𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘺𝘢 𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘩 𝘊𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘵𝘰,” Aquino said, emphasizing the continued need to inform the public that the province is currently under an El Niño Alert.

According to Aquino, if the heat continues and its effects on the province become greater, it is possible that South Cotabato may fall under an El Niño Phenomenon. Despite this possibility, he emphasized that public orientation and information dissemination will continue.

The PDRRMO has also maintained well-coordinated meetings with the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO), Philippine Red Cross-South Cotabato Chapter, Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, Provincial Veterinary Office, and other concerned council members which Aquino identified as among the departments and organizations that will assist in the province’s response to El Niño.

Aquino emphasized that agriculture will be affected, along with livestock and the health of South Cotabateños. He noted that these sectors will require resources to support the province’s response should the effects of El Niño intensify.

“𝘚𝘢𝘣𝘪 𝘬𝘰 𝘯𝘨𝘢, 𝘥𝘪 𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯 𝘪𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘸𝘢 𝘬𝘶𝘯𝘨 𝘥𝘪 𝘵𝘢𝘺𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘭𝘢𝘢𝘯 𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘰 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢 𝘥𝘪𝘺𝘢𝘯,”Aquino said, stressing the importance of setting aside funds for the province’s response to the possible impacts of the phenomenon.

He further said that funds related to the response have already been allocated and that the province has already planned the necessary actions to be undertaken before, or upon the entry of, the El Niño Phenomenon.

The PDRRMO-South Cotabato continues to emphasize the importance of early preparation, continuous public information, coordinated response planning, and resource allocation as the province prepares for the possible escalation of El Niño conditions.

Through the Provincial Government of South Cotabato, under Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr’s leadership, the PDRRMO-South Cotabato remain focused on strengthening the province’s preparedness and ensuring that necessary measures, resources, and coordination mechanisms are in place before the potential impacts of the El Niño Phenomenon are felt by communities across South Cotabato.

Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Rolly Doane C. Aquino, RN, MPA, MMNSA, MMCMDR, MMPHA was recognized by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Region 12 for his valuable support and steadfast commitment to strengthening emergency response capabilities in South Cotabato.

The recognition acknowledges his support to the South Cotabato Provincial Headquarters of the BFP Region 12, particularly through the allocation and utilization of funds for the procurement of additional emergency response vehicles, including an ambulance and a pick-up/Patient Transport Vehicle (PTV).

The additional response vehicles are expected to further enhance the operational capabilities of emergency responders, particularly in emergency medical response, and the efficient delivery of public safety services.

The recognition highlights the importance of strong inter-agency collaboration and resource support in strengthening disaster preparedness, emergency response, and public safety. Such partnerships enable responders to be better equipped and more capable of providing timely and effective assistance to communities in times of emergencies and disasters.

The award serves as a testament to Aquino’s continued commitment to strengthening emergency response mechanisms and fostering collaborative efforts toward a safer, more prepared, and resilient South Cotabato.

PDRRMO Rolly Doane C. Aquino, RN, MPA, MMNSA, MMCMDR, MMPHA, was honored by the South Cotabato Press Club, Inc. during the 4th Tingog South Cotabato Awards, receiving two distinguished recognitions: Most Media-Oriented Public Servant (Local Government Office Category) and the Tingog Excellence Award.

The awards recognize Aquino’s commitment to strengthening communication, transparency, and public information as integral components of effective public service and disaster risk reduction and management.

For Aquino, the recognition goes beyond an individual achievement. It is a recognition of the collective efforts of the South Cotabato PDRRMO family, whose personnel continue to work around the clock in serving and protecting communities across the province.

As a public servant, Aquino emphasizes that transparent, timely, and accurate information can save lives, particularly during disasters when communities depend on reliable information to make informed decisions and take appropriate action.

The recognition also highlights the vital partnership between the PDRRMO-South Cotabato and the media in bringing government programs, emergency information, and disaster preparedness messages closer to the people.

Aquino expressed his gratitude to the South Cotabato Press Club, Inc. for the trust and to the province’s media partners for serving as a bridge between government and the communities.
