12 January 2026 — Exactly one month ago, Day 1 of the Barangay Health Worker–Patient Navigation Training highlighted the purpose of engaging Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) and emphasized their critical role as Patient Navigators within their communities. The session underscored how BHWs serve as a vital bridge between patients and the health care system, particularly in geographically isolated and underserved areas.

The discussions covered the fundamentals of cancer, including what it is, how it develops, its causes, and the common myths and misconceptions surrounding the disease. Participants were also guided through the different stages of cancer, reinforcing the importance of early detection, timely referral, and appropriate care in improving health outcomes.

9 DEC 2025 - Nearly two months ago, the rollout of self-collection HPV DNA screening started in Carles, Estancia, and Lemery, marking a major milestone in strengthening cervical cancer prevention in Iloilo.

Behind this effort were dedicated public servants and health champions—municipal health officers, primary care teams, barangay health workers, trainers, and data managers—working together to build skills in HPV-DNA testing, specimen handling, referrals, and data systems. A hands-on mini-rollout capped the day, signaling readiness for real community impact.

This milestone was led by the Iloilo Provincial Health Office, in partnership with the municipalities of Lemery, Estancia, and Carles, with Cancer Warriors Foundation, Inc., led by Mrs. Carmen Auste, and technical guidance from DOH CHD Region VI and the Western Visayas Medical Center.

With support from UNITAID and Expertise France, this was more than a training—it was the start of a province-led movement to bring life-saving cervical cancer screening closer to women in Iloilo.

2025 NOV 17 | Cervical Cancer Elimination Day

The Philippines is charting a bold path toward eliminating cervical cancer—with prevention, screening, and treatment reaching women in both urban centers and remote island communities.

With support from Unitaid and Expertise France, and strong leadership from the Department of Health, the country is expanding HPV testing, mobile and outreach screening, self-sampling, and timely treatment, ensuring services are accessible, high-quality, and women-centered.

A major milestone: the Philippines’ first domestic investment in HPV testing, signaling long-term commitment and sustainability in cervical cancer prevention.

Cervical cancer is almost entirely preventable. With evidence-based strategies, strong partnerships, and women’s voices at the center, the Philippines is turning the promise of elimination into reality.

Every woman. Every community. No one left behind.
