The Birth of Bais City Division

The Division of Bais City was established in June 21, 2003 as an interim schools division. Being a new born division, its operations were still under the umbrella of Negros Oriental Division. The Interim Chief and the first Schools Division Superintendent, was Mr. He is a native of Calasga-an, and Tamisu, Bais City. Andong, together with the designated education pr

ogram supervisors and the rest of the interim division personnel, worked hard for the development of the interim schools division. They focused on establishment of new high schools in the hinterlands. On July 24, 2003, the Interim City Schools Division of Bais was established and became separated from the mother division of Negros Oriental. However, it is still a part of the SEDIP Implementation projects of the Negros Oriental Division.

Some 30 groups comprising the Local Government Unit of Bais City, line agencies and private organizations gathered at San Vicente Integrated School in Cambagahan, Bais City, on Monday, June 1, 2026, for the division launching of this yearโ€™s Brigada Eskwela.

Dr. Bernadette A. Susvilla, SDS, formally declared the opening of Brigada Eskwela together with stakeholders and partners, highlighting a strong show of commitment and unity.

Dr. Nilita Ragay, assistant schools division superintendent; SGOD Chief Emmanuel Garcia; and CID Chief Arnulfo Adana, along with all division supervisors and coordinators, showed their full support for the activity through their attendance.

Representing Mayor Luigi Marcel T. Goรฑi, First Lady and City Councilor Rina Goรฑi thanked Susvillaโ€™s leadership in spearheading initiatives to ensure Baisanon learners receive quality education.

Councilor Rina reiterated the administrationโ€™s commitment to prioritize education, emphasizing that it remains a key focus of the mayorโ€™s leadership to sustain the cityโ€™s growth through a well-educated society.

Partners provided various in-kind donations, mostly construction materials and some financial assistance. The city government remains the largest partner, set to distribute school supplies to all learners from the divisionโ€™s 57 public schools beginning next week, ahead of the June 8 class opening.

Ma. Maya Regala, education program supervisor for SGOD and the divisionโ€™s social mobilization coordinator, thanked Cluster 1 head and San Vicente Integrated School principal Gyhnwine Alabata for accepting the challenge of hosting this yearโ€™s Brigada Eskwela, with strong support from residents and barangay officials of Cambagahan.

Regala said that without Alabataโ€™s leadership and the collective support of Cluster 1 school heads, the Brigada Eskwela launch would not have been as successful.

She also expressed gratitude to stakeholders and partners for their continued support in providing opportunities for collaboration with DepEd Bais City.

Baisanon teachers are showing strong commitment as they participate in this yearโ€™s Summer In-Service Training (INSET) at Bais City National High School and Bais City National Science High School.

Starting Monday, May 27, 2026, teachers reported to their training venues for a four-day intensive discussion on cultivating literacy in Key Stage 1 classrooms, as well as the revised curriculum for Grades 6, 9 and 10.

The training is part of the Departmentโ€™s implementation of the revised curriculum, which focuses on key subjects and improved strategies to strengthen learnersโ€™ literacy and numeracy.

Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Bernadette Susvilla reminded teachers that this yearโ€™s INSET is an opportunity to reset and prepare for the opening of School Year 2026โ€“2027.

After this weekโ€™s INSET, activities will continue next week with the rollout of OBE and Brigada Eskwela.

Baisanon pride Kingrey Igot delivered the Negros Island Regionโ€™s historic first gold medal in arnis, winning the extra-lightweight division at the Palarong Pambansa 2026 in Agusan del Sur.

In Fridayโ€™s championship match, Igot faced a tough contender from the Bicol Region.

Igot opened the bout with a barrage of strikes, securing a narrow 4-3 victory in the first round. The Bicolano fighter answered aggressively in the second round, closing the gap as both athletes traded points. However, Igot regained control, building a decisive lead and sealing the win, 7-2.

Dr. Bernadette Susvilla, SDS, extended her warmest congratulations to Igot and his team for their successful campaign at this yearโ€™s Palarong Pambansa.

Stigma still surrounds discussions on HIV and AIDS. Nonetheless, the Schools Division of Bais City joins the global effort to educate and remind the public about the risks of unprotected in*******se and having multiple partnersโ€”two of the major causes of the illness spreading in communities.

Despite ongoing efforts to end HIV and AIDS, there is still no cure. However, science provides life-long medication that allows people living with HIV to lead normal lives.

On Monday, the Department of Education (DepEd) Bais City, through its Medical Unit, led a prayer and candle-lighting activity. The event reminded the workforce of how the illness has claimed many lives over the years, how government and private organizations have worked to reduce its spread, and how infections continue to affect the youth. It also highlighted the increasing number of cases among same-sex partners and the persistent stigma in public consciousness.

SDS Dr. Bernadette Susvilla and ASDS Dr. Nilita Ragay, along with SGOD Chief Emmanuel Garcia and CID Chief Arnulfo Adana, expressed their support for HIV and AIDS programs. They stressed the need for continued education in classrooms, at home, and in other forums to protect future generations.

The division likewise honored individuals who have dedicated their lives to helping people living with HIV and AIDS and to fighting stigma caused by a lack of understanding of the disease.
Division and school-based personnel also underwent voluntary HIV and AIDS testing, facilitated by the Bais City Health Office.

The SDO Bais City watch party at the Bais City Evacuation and Multipurpose Facility for the Learning Systems Reform Policies: Orientation for Teachers facilitated by Central Office and hosted by SDO Dumaguete City.
