The Baguio Filipino-Chinese Community Executive Committee, in partnership with the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Laoag and the City Government of Baguio, celebrated the 25th Philippine-China Friendship Day through a gift-sharing activity for 120 selected indigent families from various barangays at the Filipino-Chinese Friendship at Newtown Plaza Falcon Hall, Baguio City.

The program was attended by Hon. Benjamin B. Magalong, Hon. Li Xiaoyan, Hon. Mauricio G. Domogan, Mr. Peter L. Ng, Mr. Fernando S. Tiong, Mr. George Ong Cua, and Ms. Liza D. Bulayungan, highlighting the strong and enduring friendship between the Filipino and Chinese communities through service, cultural understanding, and goodwill.

Councilor Yuri K. Weygan, together with the other members of the Baguio City Council, joined the special event in support of initiatives that foster cultural friendship, unity, and community development.

Sunshine Park officially reopened today, May 21, through “Pangipad-an: A Concert Series at the Park,” marking a renewed chapter for one of Baguio City’s iconic public spaces dedicated to culture, recreation, and community gatherings.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong highlighted the reopening as a collaborative effort between the government and private sector in preserving heritage while strengthening public spaces for tourism, arts, and community engagement. The rehabilitation was made possible through the support of Mr. Armin Antonio B. Raquel Santos of Melco Resorts PH Foundation Corp., the Department of Tourism-CAR, Davies Paints Philippines, Local Creatives, and partner artists led by Angelo Aurelio.

Councilor Yuri K. Weygan joined Mayor Benjamin Magalong and other city officials during the ribbon-cutting ceremony and the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement formalizing the continued partnership for the park’s maintenance and development.

Both leaders shared words of encouragement and inspiration, recognizing the dedication and commitment of the participants to continuous learning, professionalism, and service excellence in maintaining order and safety within the City of Baguio.

A collaborative meeting was convened under the leadership of RD Jovita A. Ganongan of DOT-CAR, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss thematic events, programs, and activities aligned with the USP Framework. The meeting was initiated to encourage collaboration and gather insights in support of tourism initiatives amid ongoing energy challenges.

During the discussion, the theme Giving People Back Their Time to Be with Family (Move Freely) numerous suggestions and ideas were shared and actively contributed proposals such as free tours, enhanced visitor services, and other initiatives aimed at promoting accessibility, convenience, and meaningful experiences for both locals and tourists.

Present at the meeting were Atty. Rhenan Diwas from the City Government of Baguio, Ms. Kate Zantua of the Baguio Tourism Council, Julius M. Manabat and Patricia Godsgrace M. Alfonso of DOT-CAR, Ms. Pat Fuangelicta of Museo Kordilyera, and Engr. Alec Mapalo of the Baguio City Tourism Office. Each participant provided valuable input, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening tourism efforts in the Cordillera region.

Councilor Yuri Weygan also joined the meeting and actively participated and expressed support for the proposed initiatives, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among stakeholders in enhancing tourism programs for the benefit of the community.

The Regional Learning Needs Assessment, led by the Department of Tourism through its Office of Human Capital Development in partnership with DOT-CAR, gathered tourism stakeholders across the region to identify industry gaps, emerging trends, and key challenges. The initiative provided a collaborative platform to assess workforce development needs and highlight the importance of responsive and future-ready training programs.

Insights from the discussions emphasized the need for targeted capacity-building efforts to ensure tourism frontliners, businesses, and support sectors remain adaptable in a changing landscape.

Councilor Yuri K. Weygan joined to the discussion reinforcing the commitment to strengthening a resilient and sustainable tourism sector.

COMMITTEE MEETING ON BARANGAY RESOLUTION AND TRADE FAIR REQUEST
April 8, 2026 | Regulation of Trade Fair Activities in Malcolm Square

The committee meeting presided over by Councilor Van Oliver M. Dicang deliberated on Barangay Resolution No. 11, Series of 2026 of Barangay Malcolm Square. The resolution established policies and guidelines governing the use of the area along Km. O Perfecto Street for trade fairs and similar commercial activities, particularly those intended for recurring fundraising purposes. It also set limitations on the frequency of such events, allowing organizations to conduct these activities no more than once every two years.

During the meeting, the committee also took into consideration the 1st Indorsement dated February 2, 2026, which referred the request submitted by the United Muslim Traders Association (UMTA). The request, endorsed by the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos – Northern Luzon through Regional Director Atty. Raihanah Sarah T. Macarimpas, sought permission to utilize Perfecto Street for the conduct of the Halal Food and Productivity Fair scheduled from April 4 to 19, 2026.

The discussions focused on aligning the proposed activity with the provisions of the barangay resolution, ensuring proper regulation, equitable access, and orderly use of the designated area for commercial events within the barangay.

“Ligtas ang Bayan Kung Handa ang Mamamayan”

The Office of Civil Defense – Cordillera Administrative Region (OCD-CAR), in collaboration with the City of Baguio and the Baguio City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC), successfully spearheaded the Cordillera Regional Resilience Caravan 2026.

The activity served as a comprehensive venue for engagement, bringing together Regional and Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (R/LDRRMCs). It functioned as a centralized platform where stakeholders convened, exchanged insights, and strengthened coordination on key disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) initiatives and programs across the region.

Councilor Yuri K. Weygan attended and actively joined the event, supporting the initiative toward building a more resilient and prepared community.

In observance of Araw ng Kagitingan, the City Government of Baguio held a commemorative ceremony at Veterans Park to pay tribute to the valor and heroism of Filipino soldiers during World War II. The event served as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made in the pursuit of national freedom and dignity.

The program was attended by Mayor Benjamin Magalong, members of the city council, veterans, and various stakeholders, featuring wreath-laying rites and commemorative activities that reflected unity, remembrance, and national pride. The gathering reinforced the importance of preserving the stories and legacy of our heroes for future generations.
