17 June 2022 β The public is invited to witness the Tree Cart Parade on June 18, Saturday, starting 9 am, from the top of Session Road down to Malcolm Square joined by around 20 participants from the private and government sectors where they will showcase their carts mounted with live potted trees and other plants.
The activity is part of the Summer Capitalβs ongoing 2nd βSalengβ Festival spearheaded by the City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO) under Atty. Rhenan Diwas with this yearβs theme embracing the 2022 World Environment Day theme, βOnly One Earthβ.
Diwas said the parade is one powerful advocacy of encouraging schools and the business sectors to greenify their facades even on a limited space and bridge the gap between city life and nature.
βThis yearβs tree cart parade promotes upcycling where wastes are created into something new. Participants must build their own tree carts using scraps from construction materials like plastics, wood and steel, or a combination of these materials,β he said.
CEPMPO supervising administrative officer Sandra Almag said the theme highlights the need to live sustainably in harmony with nature by bringing transformative changes through policies and peopleβs choices towards cleaner and greener lifestyles.
A program will ensue at Malcolm Square after the parade highlighted by a message of Mayor Benjamin Magalong while councilor Mylene Yaranon will reveal the criteria for judging the Tree Cart competition.
The top three winners will receive cash prizes amounting to P25,000 for first place; P18,750, second place; and P12,500 for third.
Almag said all the participating tree carts will be displayed at Malcolm Square from June 18 to 25 for the benefit of residents and visitors. β Gaby B. Keith
