As part of the One Health Rabies Prevention and Responsible Pet Ownership Caravan, the Biyaya Animal Care Foundation, in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Philippines), Department of Agricultureโ€“Bureau of Animal Industry (DA-BAI), PCMVLP, and participating Local Government Units, will be conducting a Spay and Neuter Activity to help promote responsible pet ownership.

The Bacolod City Veterinary Office conducted an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign on African Swine Fever (ASF) in Barangay Felisa, September 3.

The activity was conducted in coordination with Barangay Felisa, headed by Barangay Captain Francisco Hilado, with Kagawad Melonie Beรฑas serving as the designated activity facilitator.

Dr. Marie Janine Sarthou, Assistant City Veterinarian, together with the ASF Surveillance and Monitoring Team headed by James Patrick Laporno, discussed key information on ASF, including its prevention, surveillance, biosecurity measures, and the importance of early reporting.
Response measures in times of ASF Infection were also discussed.

The ASF Surveillance and Monitoring Team also recently concluded its livestock inventory in Barangay Felisa, which forms part of the City's continuing efforts to monitor livestock populations and strengthen disease surveillance in the community.

The Bacolod City Veterinary Office (BCVO) confirms four (4) additional African Swine Fever (ASF) cases in Bacolod City.
Two (2) confirmed ASF cases were recorded in Barangay Cabug, while one (1) confirmed case was recorded in Barangay Estefania.

Meanwhile, one (1) additional ASF-positive result was detected through random blood sampling conducted at the AVM Bernardo Slaughterhouse in Barangay Handumanan as part of the BCVOโ€™s routine on ASF surveillance and monitoring activities.

The BCVO continues to strengthen its surveillance, monitoring, and disease-control measures to promptly detect and prevent the spread of ASF. Hog raisers and other stakeholders are encouraged to strictly observe proper biosecurity measures and cooperate with veterinary personnel during surveillance activities.

CITY VET CONDUCTS LIVESTOCK INVENTORY IN BARANGAY CABUG, URGES LIVESTOCK RAISERS TO PARTICIPATE

The Bacolod City Veterinary Office (BCVO) is currently conducting a livestock inventory in Barangay Cabug as part of its continuing efforts to establish an updated record of livestock populations and strengthen animal health monitoring and surveillance in the city.

The activity involves visiting livestock raisers and gathering essential information on the number and type of livestock, animal ownership, and location of animal holdings. The inventory also supports the city's ongoing African Swine Fever (ASF) Monitoring and Surveillance Program, particularly in monitoring swine populations and identifying potential disease risks.

The City Veterinary Office is encouraging livestock raisers and animal owners to cooperate with the team and have their livestock registered in the official records of the office.

Livestock raisers are encouraged to provide accurate information to the veterinary team during the inventory. The cooperation of residents will help the City Veterinary Office maintain reliable livestock records and ensure that animal health programs and services can be properly planned and implemented.

The Bacolod City Veterinary Office (BCVO), in partnership with the Sangguniang Barangay of Villamonte headed by Barangay Captain Rommel T. Flores, conducted a Stakeholdersโ€™ Meeting and Seminar for hog raisers, August 26.

The activity was facilitated by Kagawad Nancy Loplop. Dr. Marie Janine Sarthou, Assistant City Veterinarian, led the discussion on the nature of the ASF virus, its transmission, clinical signs, and the importance of proper biosecurity measures in preventing its spread. James Patrick Laporno, Head of the ASF Surveillance and Monitoring Team, also took part in the discussion and monitoring of the concerns raised by the hog raisers.

The activity also included the profiling of hog raisers in the barangay, allowing the BCVO to hear their concerns and monitor the ASF situation firsthand as part of its continuing surveillance and response efforts.

The tarpaulins feature essential biosecurity measures against ASF and are intended to help educate hog raisers on proper preventive practices while strengthening awareness on disease prevention.
