PNP INTENSIFIES ANTI-SMUGGLING DRIVE, CONFISCATES ₱12.4-M ILLEGAL GOODS ACROSS THE COUNTRY
The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced the successful conduct of multiple coordinated anti-smuggling operations across the country on June 3, 2026, resulting in the arrest of suspects and the seizure of various contraband items with an estimated total value of more than ₱12.4 million.
The operations, carried out in close coordination with partner law enforcement and regulatory agencies, underscore the continuing commitment of the PNP to strengthen border control, protect consumers, and safeguard the country’s natural resources. These accomplishments form part of the PNP Focused Agenda, particularly under Enhanced Managing Police Operations, which emphasizes more responsive, intelligence-driven, and inter-agency coordinated enforcement efforts nationwide.
In Cebu, personnel operating in Medellin successfully intercepted illegally transported wildlife species valued at around ₱3.5 million. The arrested individual was taken into custody for documentation and proper investigation, while the recovered wildlife items were turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for proper handling and rehabilitation.
Meanwhile, in Bukidnon, authorities intercepted smuggled ci******es worth more than ₱2.4 million during a checkpoint operation, leading to the arrest of two individuals. A separate anti-smuggling operation in Zamboanga City also resulted in the confiscation of additional smuggled ci******es valued at approximately ₱2.9 million.
In the BARMM area, law enforcement units seized a large volume of smuggled ci******es estimated at over ₱1.2 million during a late-night operation, further disrupting illicit supply chains in the region. In Pasig City, authorities also implemented a search warrant that led to the arrest of suspects and the confiscation of assorted imported appliances valued at more than ₱2.2 million for alleged violation of consumer protection laws.
PNP Chief, Police General Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., commended the operating units for their sustained operational momentum, stressing that these results reflect a more focused and disciplined police force.
“Patuloy po ang ating operasyon laban sa mga iligal na gawain. We are serious in making sure that laws are enforced consistently and fairly. Sa ating mga kababayan, makakaasa po kayo na tuloy-tuloy ang ating trabaho para mapanatili ang kaayusan at protektahan ang ating ekonomiya at kalikasan,” the Chief PNP said. “These accomplishments show that when we work together with our partners, mas lumalakas ang ating kakayahan na pigilan ang mga smuggling activities.”
He also emphasized that these operational gains are aligned with the broader governance direction of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., who has consistently underscored the importance of strong border protection, consumer safety, and environmental preservation under a whole-of-government approach.
The PNP assured the public that follow-up investigations and legal proceedings are underway against all arrested individuals, while confiscated goods are now under proper custody of concerned agencies for appropriate disposition.
As the organization continues to enhance its operational capabilities, the Chief PNP reaffirmed that the institution remains anchored on public service and accountability, reinforcing the message of a “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman,” where enforcement is not only firm but also felt by the people it serves.
